Keegan - Ashley Meeting Will Be Positive

May 8th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 23 Comments

As we reported earlier today, Kevin Keegan will meet the Newcastle United club owner Mike Ashley and Director of Football Dennis Wise, in London tomorrow.

Kevin Keegan - looking forward to meeting tomorrow

However, in contrast to the reports in the Sun and the Mail and other gossip press today, the Newcastle manager insists he is looking forward to the meeting, and that it will be a positive one.

In today’s rearranged Press conference, because of the meeting tomorrow, Keegan said:

“The reason we have called the pre-match Press conference a day early is because I am going to London to talk with Mike Ashley.”

“It’s a good thing and I am looking forward to it.”

We remember that Mike Ashley, a couple of weeks ago, said that he couldn’t wait to sit down with Keegan and understand from his manager what players he wants to go after in the summer.

We think Mike Ashley is only too well aware of the how popular Kevin is at Newcastle, and we feel he also thinks that Kevin can do wonders for the club.

Now would be a great time for him to back Kevin with the money it will take, to bring the players in, that Kevin wants at the club.

We hope there will be a communication to fans coming out of the meeting, which we think is required because Geordie fans are a little unsettled with the events since Chelsea’s defeat against a great Chelsea side.

There’s no disgrace whatsoever, in being beaten by the Chelsea side, but we feel some of Kevin’s disappointment and frustration overflowed after the game.

That’s only becasue the man is so passionate about bringing success back to Tyneside - and that cannot be too bad. :D

Comments very welcome.

linked with veleso i heard about him but havent seen him play.Is he is better then modric?(i know one defensive other attacking).

  • 2 Leo Smith // May 8, 2008 at 15:08

Think Hargreaves-type player but younger. Also takes a great free kick (so long Geremi!).

  • 3 Tom_Toon // May 8, 2008 at 15:11

As above, Veloso is like Hargreave, both can play full back and take free kicks except Veloso’s passing is far better.

Keegan is a great manager, a fine role-model and, above all, a brilliant man.

The King gets what he wants in this part of the world and there’s no two-ways about it.

MA has also been fantastic and could be the man we’ve been waiting for, but, while he is very popular with us on Tyneside, he has to remember, if he makes us choose, it’s unanimously going to be Keegan.

We all remember too well the chants of “Sack the board” and I’m fairly sure Big Mike doesn’t need that to contend with, can’t see him in the stands then!

Keegan, go on, sign Henry, Joaquin, Gattuso.

We have full faith in your transfers (Tino, Shearer, Ginola to name a few!) and will back you 100%. You gave us the best years of football I’ve ever seen, and even when the going gets tough, you won’t be given the shouts like the rest of the ponces we’ve had since you (bar Bobby) because we know you have the capabilities to take us back up where we “Belong”.

After 10 games without a win there were still chants of Keegan ringing round St. James, and I can assure you, even if you get us relegated it’s the players and possibly the board who will come in for it, never you!

Keegan’s here for the long-haul so belt up and watch the good times return to the greatest footballing community in the world.

    Haway the Toon!!

I can appreciate how KK felt over Chelsea. Those fans have had a Siberian mogul buy it all for them. They have good footballers given to them on a plate. They have a very good side based on money only - and lots of it too. NUFC? We have shown loyalty and passion over years that no other fans have considering our circumstances. We would all just love it for our team now to start on the road to the top. Perhaps Sepp Blatter is right. And KK too, about the sterilisation of football by over-blown golden-boy and golden-balls teams. KK speaks from his heart as well. When you look at the faces of some managers you see they are just technicians. No love, no loyalty, no heritage. You said it KK and I for one trust you completely with the future of NUFC. Go tell them on Friday. Oh, and by the way Kevin - don’t buy the Daily Mail on the way.

haha ant ur right abt keegan… not so much with da transfers…keegan did give us da best times we’ve ever had as a toon supporter.

I really reckon we need good solid players.. i’m goin for SWP, Veloso, Alves wouldnt mind cambell or dunne or cuellar ( cuellar preffered) Wouldnt mind Ashton proving me wrong ( needa a btr blondie to replace our very own) dun make me say his name. Ashravin also cool..

veloso would be one of our greatest ever coups, has anyone heard any more concrete news on us making our approach, and i hope the meeting tommorow is possitive, i think it will be, as big mike seems a sensible bloke, i think big mike will release big funds, please people stop being so negative and slagging ma and cm off, the transfer window is not even open and people are complaing already

Yeah Ant that’s the spirit!! I’m with ya! We are going to climb all the way up, maybe it will take a few years but with The King back we can be certain we’ll get there someday.

  • 12 RayNUFC // May 8, 2008 at 15:29

Don’t believe the sensationalist crap printed in the Sun and the Mail. I don’t understand why people buy these papers.

  • 13 Ross G // May 8, 2008 at 15:37

OMG - just read on SkySports that Man City are favourites to sign Giovani Dos Santos. The young mexican winger/CM from Barcelona he is only just 18 and probably one of the best young players in the world, i have seen alot of him and he basically is and looks like a young Ronalihno. Barca are apparently resigned toloosing him and want £7.8m. This guy is worth £20m already in my mind and that value will only go up. We should do everyhing to get him. He can pay LW/or RW or an advanced CM. For £8m we would be laughin.PLEASE GO FOR HIM AT LEAST we can only make mony on him

  • 14 Tom_Toon // May 8, 2008 at 15:38

Dos Santos aint that good, and he would die in the prem.

  • 15 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 8, 2008 at 15:41

dos santos would be good in the spanish or italian league, just like ronaldinho would.

  • 16 domtoon // May 8, 2008 at 15:53

Ant - you said it all my friend.

  • 17 Hamas (51times) // May 8, 2008 at 15:54

Dos Santos would be kicked a few times and then go into hiding for the rest of the game if he came to England, he’d be much better off in Spain.

  • 18 ObaFan2 // May 8, 2008 at 16:08

    Ant, well said.

The two most important people @ St James’ are KK and MA, all the rest have to pull their fingers out and do their job ( thinking mainly of the recruitment staff).

A few months ago some were saying that the players had to stand up and be counted, Bob Moncur included, now they have and it’s important to build on this.

It’s up to (Ernie) Wise and co. to produce and not have another Modric on our hands.

  • 19 Ian // May 8, 2008 at 16:20

Keegan only answered the question he was asked after the game, he answered honestly, this Summers spend will not make a Chelsea, completely blown out of all proportion due to the clever editing on TV.
Still if Ashley gets a little worried he may dig a little deeper..

  • 20 Paulzim // May 8, 2008 at 18:54

    Well said Ant!!!

  • 21 daiv // May 8, 2008 at 19:29

KK was very clever. Tactics to get MA to dig deep. To date MA is standing on the surface with shovel in hand. He has not begun to dig. Come on Ashley loosen those purse strings. We don’t want Dunne and Bent. We want quality.

  • 22 hanzowen // May 8, 2008 at 20:58

The King said it all that matter. The way up is for MA to invest heavily to add more quality players into the squad.
    imo it’s great post Ant!

  • 23 Leo // May 8, 2008 at 22:04

im sure the meeting will be positive, mike ashley and keegan will finally be able to have a chat since him signing back as our manager, keegan can reiterate what he was told and ashley im sure will state that nothing has changed in that sence, then again i might be wrong.
