It turns out that Sam Allardcye wanted to sell Oba Martins last July.

Oba Martins - big favorite on Tyneside
When Keegan was asked today, if he had received a bid for Oba Martins, Kevin told the Evening Chronicle:
“I haven’t, no, but I want to keep all my players and add to them if I can.”
“Anyone that goes will be a bit of a blow, especially if something like that happens late on in the summer.”
“However, Arsenal have definitely not approached me.”
Newcastle United paid £10M for Martins in the summer of 2006, and that’s turned out to be really good deal for Newcastle.
And the Chronicle is reporting the transfer fee is to be paid over 5 seasons, and Newcastle are now said to owe around £6M for him.
Sam Allardyce was prepared to sell the Nigerian international at the end of July, but there were no clubs that were interested at that time.
The Chronicle is reporting that Oba was aware of all of these goings on last summer, so we think Martins has done just a great job, to keep playing in the way he did last season, when under Big Sam, he was definitely second fiddle to Michael Owen.
But the genius of Kevin now has him starting every game, alongside his captain Michael Owen and Mark Viduka, and we’re sure that Keegan and Newcastle will not sell Oba now. That would be madness.
We want Oba Martins, Michael Owen, Steven Taylor and also Charles N’Zogbia at the club next season.
The only one we may lose of that quartet could be Charles N’Zogbia, and it’s right that he should go, if he decides he doesn’t want to be at the club.
Comments welcome.

Thankfully, Fat Sam’s plan for creating a Bolton of the Nort East has flopped miserably. Went quite close to becoming that….
muahahahahahaha

Sell Martins?
Sign Nolan?
A sound transfer policy.
No wonder Oba was considering leaving us.
Sam Allardyce - Prick.

fat sham - what a fat idiot he was. one of our most exciting players so obviously he wanted to sell him to get some much needed boredom into the team. thank god hes gone.
id keep oba, owen, taylor for sure but get rid of zog he just causes trouble and unrest and doesnt want to be here. gd riddance to him i say unless he improves his attitude and wants to stay.

i would liek to keep owen and oba but to be honest, if it came to a push, i would sell owen over oba. lets hope we can have oba, owen and crouch in attack next season. iwould liekthat alot. plus get SWP on the right and zogs on the left. barton in the middle and a-n-other top draw player maker alongside barton. the back four aint too bad which is a change for us to say that! maybe harper instead of given perhaps? we need to dump emre, smith, ameobi, rozza, viduka and one or two more high earning twats.
7 daniel // May 14, 2008 at 14:45
Im so relieved fat sam has gone, I can imagine where we would be if he was still in charge. Our team would probably be: Jaaskelainen, Hunt, O’Brien, Cahill, Samuel, Diouf, Gardner, McCann, Nolan, Campo and Davies. God that line-up makes me cringe!
8 ObaFan2 // May 14, 2008 at 14:46
I could tell Oba had no confidence in Fat Sham so this news doesn’t surprise me.
Credit to Oba for his character and ability to carry on the way he has this season. After his first season and 17 goals he should have been given a chance to kick on and improve, instead the then manager did all he could imo to knock any confidence out of him.
Oba is a Geordie and hope to God it stays that way
9 KKK // May 14, 2008 at 14:47
I hope Keegan doesn’t really mean that he wants to keep “all” of his players. He must be able to see that some members of the squad…Smith, Emre, Ameobi and maybe Duff are either not good enough or are not pulling their weight.
But i’m so pleased to hear this reassurance from Keegan that he wants Martins to stay. A definite future Legend!
Also i think fat Sam disliked Martins coz he absolutely tore apart his beloved Bolton at the start of the season!

There is no doubt chelski will be bringin in some world class mids in the summer which will imo lead to these 3 not playin much.. 24 HeronMag // May 14, 2008 at 15:36
Oba Martins performed for Allardyce whenever he was called on. I can’t believe he was contemplating selling him! Bolton could never dream of signing a player like Oba and he just wants to kick him out of Newcastle!?
God I’m glad KK is back.
The excitement is beginning to set in already for the new season. Keegan has always done well in the transfer market… Who’s next for the toon!?!
I can’t wait!
25 seetow // May 14, 2008 at 15:38
craig chrisholm i agree with you on that.
if it came to a choice between oba and owen, i’d pick oba over owen anyday. he’s younger, faster, and has more potential than owen had or may have, and most importantly, as hamas said 51 times, he is a geordie, one of us.

28 HeronMag // May 14, 2008 at 15:46
Seetow - I just can’t agree with you that Oba has more potential then Owen ever had.
Michael Owen achieved at the age of 17 more than Oba has ever done. His goal against Argentina signalled the arrival of one of the best marksmen the English game has ever seen (or ever will see in my opinion).
Owen IS world class. Oba could be. I love Martins. He is such an exciting player… But he lacks the class and finesse of Owen. (I hope he proves me wrong on this one)
Anyone who says Owen is past it is a fool. He may have lost a few yards of pace but he is still most instinctive goalscorer at this club.
29 Eric // May 14, 2008 at 15:48
It just shows you the lunacy that whistled in between Sam Shallowgrave’s two brain cells. He chewed on on gum as though it was the arse end of an elephant. He would have relegated us. Sell Martins? How mad can you get? Was Fat Sam receiving brown envelopes from the Daily Mail or something? Our best player for years is Oba!

why the downer on little emre?
does anyone on here actually follow football? admit, that since he has been here we haven’t seen much of him, mainly (this season) due to injury. However, before comgin in under defence minded coaches he was a mid field string puller and I am sure we will see more of this at the euros when he gets a chance to show all he can do in the middle. I for one hope he stays, he is a keegan player and I am sure he will have seen that and told him his plans for the team and the little turk!

35 Leo // May 14, 2008 at 16:17
i think most fans shiver when it comes to the thought of bringing players in from chelsea because big name signings usually dont perform, however if the name was SWP i would likely be dancing on the ceiling and showing my @rse in fenwicks window because he would be unbelievably good
pizzaro hasnt really cut it in the premiership and may have a point to prove to people, if he was cheap might be worth it, i would much prefer dean ashton though who is playing well recently
36 Ant (Smith's a smoggy) // May 14, 2008 at 16:24
Agree leo, SWP is as under-rated as they come.
He plays well in just about every game he gets for the blus and England and still struggles for first-team football.

Fat Sam = W*nker - ’nuff said !!!!! Howay the lads !
38 Ian // May 14, 2008 at 16:28
The difference between Martins and Owen is Martins has an excellent future, Owen has a brilliant past, we arent here to pay for the past, if Owen stays he may be brilliant again or maybe not, I hope he stays and I hope he is.
Anyhow we are looking at Diane who is supposed to be a similar stamp to Martins, has a couple of chums at the club and would like to play alongside Owen and rates Martins.
Also the big one for me Newcastle and Bolton are looking at Djibril Cisse, if that man is on form and he has averaged since 2002 11 goals a season in top class football, everyone will be forgetting about Owen, and Martins will need everything he has to keep pace with that player as he is probably a little quicker than even Martins is, but he is tall and dangerous in the box too.

BSA is a c()ck.
I notice he has taken to punditry in his absense from mangement.
After the way he managed Newcastle he has some neck to go and comment on the TV. The only thing he should be on is
“I’m a cr4p football manager, get me out of here”
Hosted by Roy Keane and Niall Quinn the pair of n()bs.
Oba was lucky to get any playing time out of the cock becasue his preference was Alan “Sh1tty” Smith. And is it any wonder that Smith is the closest we had or he could get that was close to being a Nolan/ Davies type player?
Let’s hope KK has him stay and we make some good additions for the new season
SWP needs to learn to cross a ball better than I can, it’s ok being exciting but does the end product come with form and games played? If we sign him I hope so.
From what I remember when we used to see SWP ( before he joined Chelsea’s back room staff) he was exciting and can take a player or two for fools, but his end product wasn’t great.

I wanted to like Allardyce for the pure fact he was our gaffer, but there was always this nagging feeling that he was actually a big fat pile of turd, based mostly on the negative feeling growing within me every time I went to see a game played under him. The crowd were their usual selves in their cheering the team on, but, there was this horrible feeling deep within. This story, if true, does nothing but reinforce my belief deep down that BFS was a waste of space!

I would be dancing on the ceiling when we got Arshavin; he really is top class.
FSA has to be ashamed if the news is true that he wanted to sell Oba. And I would not be that surprised if this news was true, vcause every time Oba was subbed or had to sit on the bench
I can’t think of what would have happenned if that f*t creep was still the manager of our beloved team.
