Peter Taylor Could Be New Youth Academy Director

Peter Taylor could be the next Director of Newcastle United’s important Youth Academy.

Peter Taylor - great coach and he seems interested

The former England caretaker manager and Under-21 manager left Stevenage Borough two weeks ago, and has already met with Dennis Wise.

Dennis is of course our Executive Director of Football, and the two of them met at a hotel in Waltham Abbey to discuss the possibility on Wednesday.

Peter Taylor said yesterday:

“Dennis rang me for a general chat a couple of weeks ago and then we had a cup of coffee and another talk yesterday,”

Taylor is one of four candidates being considered by Newcastle to oversee their increasingly important academy, but he is thought to be the most experienced of the quartet.

We think Taylor would be great at Newcastle, but it remains to be seen if he would want a more visible job, although this could probably allow him to do some work for the England FA over time too.

He has a great record of developing young players, and he would be a top catch for the club.

Taylor and Kevin Keegan also apparently get on well, and no doubt he would be a good choice as far as Kevin is concerned.

It’s also very clear that Newcastle see youth development as one important way forward, and they seem willing to recruit the very best coaches and pay the appropriate wages to get the very best at the club.  That’s good and important to our future success.

Taylor has an excellent reputation and Newcastle feels he could persuade parents, that their kids are safe with him and the club. That’s an important consideration, of course, when dealing with very young players.

If Taylor becomes the new Director of the Academy, we’re not sure what will happen with Joe Joyce, who is the current manager, but it is rumored that he and Steve Round could both be leaving the club.

Comments welcome.
