There are renewed reports today that if Newcastle are able to land Turkish youngster Arda Turan, then Damien Duff will be allowed to leave the club.

Damien Duff - will be allowed to leave Newcastle?
We like Duff a lot and would be surprised if he does indeed go.
We have already lost Ramage, Troisi, Carr and Diatta from the first team squad and Rozehnal and Ameobi also look certain to leave.
So if we sell any more of our players we are going to have a very small squad, but maybe that’s what the club want, given the massive wages (£70M) we paid out last year.
The Sunday Sun yesterday reported that the capture of Galatasaray midfielder Arda Turan will see Duff offloaded this summer.
Duff is said to be considering interest from Portsmouth and former club Blackburn Rovers, and we have no doubt there will be lots of clubs after him, including Sunderland, if he is made available, and we should at least be able to recuperate our fee of £5M we paid to Chelsea two years ago.
The Ireland international has always said he is happy at Newcastle, and keen to make up for two injury-ravaged seasons.
But reports say he is not part of Keegan’s first team plans for next season.
Comments welcome.
Note: When we say “we” we mean that’s what we think. Since we is really just me (Ed Harrison) that’s in fact what I think.
I am certainly not speaking for Newcastle fans, but just expressing my own opinion - and then you can then come in with your views and opinions in the comments.
Just wanted to clear that up as it came up in some of he comments yesterday.

let him go if arda comes but try get a deal invloving money and duff for bentley
or money and duff for kranjcar
3 aussie magpie // May 19, 2008 at 10:46
I think we should keep Duff.
He has proven how good he can be when he is in form and if we keep him injury free he can shorley prove his his worth as a excellent creative winger.
4 toonoholic // May 19, 2008 at 10:47
arsenal reportedly are interested in kranjcar
5 faustino // May 19, 2008 at 10:48
Surely Queen Victoria never had any of this trouble Ed my friend

I think it would be a shame to lose Duff (and Emre, come to that if we’re to believe some of the rumours).
Duff is in the same boat that Owen was in. He’s had a major injury and needs games. Next season will see him re-emerge as a very good winger.
I only hope it’s with the Toon.
7 ToonKing // May 19, 2008 at 10:50
yeah Duff can go, he’s burned out. i heard he all ready put his house up for sale.
8 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 19, 2008 at 10:52
as iv said before, espec when the modric saga was happening id prefer kranjcar. id love to see us push the boat out and sign him but i cant see it happening. i hate duff with a passion, he is like alan smith, doesnt contribute jack shite, appart from an unhealthy look to our wage bill
9 SuperShearer // May 19, 2008 at 10:53
Ed you’re awesome mate, feel free to talk in the royal ‘we’ as the rest of us all love you anyway. This is easily the best Newcastle site anywhere…keep up the great work.

Wasted talent! Never really showed it at Chelsea, had his best seasons at Blackburn!
11 GazzaToon // May 19, 2008 at 10:54
just to let you guys know im pretty sure we are going to be siging nicky shorey next week, just got to wait til he gets back off his family holiday!
12 scottish mag // May 19, 2008 at 10:54
i heard that too toon king, need to hear some more news on the arda situation today, i more excited than the modric thing, although this time i dont want to feel as gutted when modric went to spurs, so arda sign the dotted line plz plz plz plz plz plz
13 scottish mag // May 19, 2008 at 10:56
gazza how do u know that
14 Geordie Gerrard7 // May 19, 2008 at 10:59
i just heard about the shorey thing in the sun, cant really call that reliable
15 GM // May 19, 2008 at 11:00
Duff can go for me, duff by name….
He has no pace, cant beat a man, only has one trick to come back inside and is not the class of winger we need at the club.
Ed: all the players you stated above as already leaving are all pap and to be fair would never ever challenge for a sqaud place let alone the first team, so the net impact of them going is nothing to the squad.
16 Tom_Toon // May 19, 2008 at 11:05
Dont paticularly want Shorey however his delivery from dead ball situations is immense. Id be tempted to put him on the left of the midfield 3 rather than at lb and drop geremi, thats of course if we ddnt get a top quality cm in.
17 bo // May 19, 2008 at 11:05
Talksport are reporting that spurs have outbid newcastle for Arda!!
18 NUFCFAN // May 19, 2008 at 11:07
duff plus ten and give us bentley
19 Leo // May 19, 2008 at 11:10
i totally understand you ED re: we/me its you and the site, if would look wrong if you just wrote i think this i think that i heard this i heard that etc…
keep on keeping on ed, good work.
as for duff i would like him to stay unless we recieve a good offer for him because he would have to be replaced even if we get turan because we only have 1 right winger and 2 left wingers then and everyone agrees that milner needs competition to improve.
20 HeronMag // May 19, 2008 at 11:11
Duff was a player that had me chuffed when he signed for the toon but sadly he just hasn’t lived up to his reputation.
Personally I would let him go if we get the Turkish lad in but only if Zog is staying. We need cover on the left.
21 NUFCFAN // May 19, 2008 at 11:11
also have mentioned it already on another post
but does anyone reckon we actually have a chance at signing Ramsey from Cardiff - even though he has already turned us down to go there?
22 toonarmy08 // May 19, 2008 at 11:14
Duff plus couple a mill 4 santa cruz???
or
duff plus 5mill 4 diarra(pompey)!
23 GazzaToon // May 19, 2008 at 11:15
Meanwhile, manager Kevin Keegan is to make a £2.5 million move for left-back Nicky Shorey.
The 27-year-old England international has rejected the offer of a contract extension at relegated Reading, and will become a free agent next summer.
Shorey is now set to open talks with Keegan in a fortnight when he returns from a family holiday.
Thats from the daily telegraph so its not rubbish

25 Fernando // May 19, 2008 at 11:22
bye duff, less chelsea rejects the better
26 Ross // May 19, 2008 at 11:24
doubt we would get either! santa cruz is probs worth a lot more the duff plus 4mill, and there is no way diarra is goin to come here after he turned us down to go to pompey in the first place. tony adams has come out and said today he wusnt be suprised to see diarra leave for a big club.
i think we shud keep a hold of duff, he just needs a few games a couple of goals and he will be flying. with regards to him selling his house, its nothing to do with him leaving.
27 Davies // May 19, 2008 at 11:28
Loving the Royal “We” Ed. Keep it up treacle!
As for Shorey, I prefere Jose, he’s developing nicely. Would be nice to have cover/competition for LB though.
I also think we should give Duffer until January to see if there’s anything left in his legs. He hasn’t had the easiest time. If he just can’t keep up he should be sold.
28 Nick Dryden // May 19, 2008 at 11:29
No Duff is not wanted for all the very well documented reasons along with Smith
29 Marat18 // May 19, 2008 at 11:37
agreed with comments, let him go and try to get Bentley in exchange (aye, Im dreaming).
30 Tom // May 19, 2008 at 11:55
i think duff could easily be replace by promoting a couple of youngsters to the first team (kazenga, or that other quick winger, forgot the name), or by getting shorey in who can cover left back or left midfield. we need to keep zog though.
31 Graham // May 19, 2008 at 12:01
I think we’ll still have a reasonably small squad in August. But the facct is that we dont need a massive squad next season - we dont have European football like some others and can call on one or two of the emerging kids if really necessary. We wont be able to keep a large squad happy next year (at least not all of it).
As far as Duffs concerned - i quite like him but if we can et a better replacement then so be it…
32 sirjasontoon // May 19, 2008 at 12:08
I would be happy to let both duff and emre go if we can find suitable players to replace them.
Can’t remember when either of them had an outstanding game..maybe we could pick up some players on the cheap from Leicester or on ebay.
I used to get really excited when we got linked with star players back in the day..now I just yawn and read about who our rivals are snapping up from under our noses.
33 TomPoon // May 19, 2008 at 12:50
Chronicle says that Newcastle camp have confirmed they are not interested in Arda Turan.
We all know how reliable they are though.

It’s getting a bit of a winger merry go round!
With all this speculation about Duff, N’Zogbia and Milner, we won’t have a 4-4-2 option next season.
It’s a shame they’re linked with exits, regardless of KK’s comments today, as it sends out the wrong signal. This is esp…
You know… who cares! Enough speculation.
Stroll on 08/09! Then I’ll predict with 100% accuracy who NUFC sign and drop.
36 Ian // May 19, 2008 at 14:00
I would keep Duff for cover in a small squad, he can play left or right wing or left back, why he wasnt left back and Zog at the front I didnt understand.
I suppose he could even play central midfield if he had to.
A small squad needs someone who will play a few positions, while he doesnt score many he doesnt let the team down in a big way.
37 Taiwantoon // May 19, 2008 at 14:04
Wouldn’t mind to see Duff go. It’s just a pitty that he doesn’t make it with us. Still remembering his play during the Blackburn days, and that was a joy to watch.
38 chuck // May 19, 2008 at 14:46
Duff-Zog-Emry- Turan- Milner- Barton- Veloso-Geremi, not a bad midfield with Turan on the right, Veloso, inside right (holding role) Zog and Duff on the left, interchanging, Gomis and Martins Up front, lots of attacking skills, would give any club problems, with a decent bench, emry for Zog, Milner For Turan, Geremi for Veloso, Joey can play either role, defence or attack.
Would cost a few bob but Check out the figures spent by the opposition and look at the earnings in the EPL this coming season.
If the ownership wants to be in the top six to eight, its going to cost.
39 Tooner // May 19, 2008 at 15:13
Ship off Duff. He gets paid FAR too much for what he contributes. Isn’t he on something like 60k a week? Get real.
Sign some young talent for far less wages and we’ve not only cleared out dead weight, improved the squad, but we’ve also reduced the wage bill. Win-win-win.
40 Ashton // May 19, 2008 at 15:29
He will end up at west ham
41 shirts // May 19, 2008 at 22:47
I think Duffer’s been terribly unlucky. He really played well and worked hard in a bunch of games before Keegan’s master stroke of 4-3-3. I do think he’s lost some pace, but the team was misfiring then. I feel like he’s still got good work in him and would hate to see him get sold and then come back to life next season for some other club.
42 reillers // May 19, 2008 at 23:44
Duff played a blinder for Ireland in a training match in. Ireland won 3-1, he set up 2 out of their 3 goals. It’s a wee bit premature but that Irish side, even though they’re only wee lads at the minute, they’ve some decent potential.
Duff has been really unlucky with the injuries. If he was given game time, and he was fit I think we’d see the old Duff.
43 Leo // May 20, 2008 at 1:32
reillers i agree mate, we must give duff a chance, he has been unlucky with injuries such as broken metatarsle, yes rooney maybe superhuman and able to recover in 3 weeks from it but the average recovery time for it is about 6-7 weeks
duff will prove people wrong i hope, the fact that he looks able this year to get a full pre season under his belt before a season gives me the hope that he will show up some doubters.
reet now for a quick question, how many fans on hear have a file on their computer or a bit of paper on their desk with written on them the players they would like to join the toon, i sure have its a bit unrealistic but who cares
hears my punt with a star next to the prefered players on my list
Defence
Sahko*
Quellar*
Torosidis
Bruno Alves
Shorey
Midfield
Veloso*
Turan
Arshavin*
Kapo*
Larsson*
Zarate
Attack
Cisse*
Gomis
Pandev
Elmander
no need for a goal keeper shorey would be good but sakho can play left back also so can veloso
