In an amazing game last night, Newcastle transfer target Arda Turan again fired Turkey to an amazing comeback.

Arda Turan - sparked Turkey to amazing victory - again!
Turkey fired fired 3 goals past the Czech Republic in the final 15 minutes of the game last night, to get an unlikely win that takes them through to the Euro 2008 quarter finals against Croatia.
With just 15 minutes remaining in the game the Czech Republic looked home and dry with a 2-0 lead, but then that man Arda Turan, who hopefully will soon be playing for Newcastle United, scored Turkey’s first goal, to put the Turks right back in the game.
And it was the 21 year-old Turan who sparked the amazing revival, as he was seen running after the ball after a goal kick had been awarded to the Czechs, to spur the Turks to their amazing comeback.
This boy certainly plays with great passion, and also has a fair amount of skill, to say the least.
Then with just 3 minutes of the game remaining Nihat scored for the Turks to equalize the score, after a terrible mistake by goalkeeper Pete Cech, who basically dropped the ball from a cross, right at Nihat’s feet.
Just an an awful calamity by the Czech goalkeeper.
The Turkish supporters, by this time, were going wild to say the least, and then when everybody thought the game would go to immediate penalties, the incredible happened, and Nihat again found himself clear, and swept the ball past the Czech goalkeeper to power Turkey to one of their best wins in their history.
2-0 down with 15 minutes to go, and they end up winning this important game 3-2 - just unbelievable. If you had written this story, nobody would have believed it.
Only one team in these European Championships, has come back from being behind to win, and it has been Turkey twice, in their last two games.
Turkey has every right to be proud of their warriors last night, but for the Czech Republic there has to be grave doubts about their temperament, after they appeared to panic after Turan scored Turkey’s first goal.
But it was Arda Turan who was the Turkish player that made it all possible, with a display of skill and passion, that must have seemed breathtaking to the many Newcastle fans who watched the game around the world.
It was no doubt a wonderful night for Turkey, and this 21 year old looks made to measure for Kevin Keegan and Newcastle United.
Most teams would have felt sorry for themselves and given up, at 2-0 down and 15 minutes to go, but all credit to Turkey last night, who don’t seem to know when they are beaten.
Turkey is no doubt justifiably proud of what their team has achieved in their last two games, both of which they have won in the last 3 minutes - unbelievable.
We bet there was some celebrating last night in the Turkish homeland.
It’s Croatia next up.
Comments welcome.

Zhirkov > Arda Turan
IMO, similar flair, delivery, goal threat, but Zhirkov is very quick unlike Turan.
He is a good player with great potential but i just feel we could get a similar if not better player for less the price.
3 catawbamag // Jun 16, 2008 at 1:23
He certainly isnt getting any cheaper.
I’d be curious what Emre has said to him about us? I think its a longshot him coming to the toon, but still glad were interested in him.

I share the pessimism… now that he is in the spotlight he’ll have better offers… especially with our cost cutting approach these days… great to steady the financial ship and make us bigger in a few years, but it means that in the immediate future we won’t be up there much… also with Keegan’s role seeming so removed from transfers… it all seems so hush hush… anyway, I am waiting to see who they bring in… apart from 15 year olds ofcourse
5 Lacedaemonian // Jun 16, 2008 at 1:25
He looks like a great prospect.
6 Ross G // Jun 16, 2008 at 1:30
If we get him and Arshavin quality, then flog Milner in a Crouch swap. Van der Vaart would be quality but unrealistic. Manuel Fernandes at £5-6m would be good instead though and better defensively. Then get Rat in, Coloccini, and a top DM then we would look a force. I would even sell Owen.
Given
Beye - Taylor - Collocini - Rat
Cigarini (next Pirlo)
Fernandes N’Zogbia
Arshavin Turan
Crouch
Subs: Harper, Faye, Butt, Martins, Owen

We tried to sign him before this tournament but Galatasaray wanted to wait until it finished, I doubt his price will have gone up much as he was over priced in the first place.
12 Stephen // Jun 16, 2008 at 1:44
We need to buy Turan in my opinion he could become one of the best midfielders in the world..
Saw him a few times now and looks on par with moderic or even better…….
I have a negative view on Newcastle United for a while now…
And i will tell you why………
We have never being the same since Sir Bobby Robson …
We had Given Bernard Dabizas Woodgate Griffen Solano Speed Jenas Dyer Bellamy Shearer
It gives me goosebumps thinking of feynoord away when bellamy scored at the end……When we clearly were a match for any team in the league…I remember when we beat sunderland 1-0 away from home and we were top of the league………2 reasons i think we didnt went on to win the league that season.1 was because next game bergkamp scoered that wonderful goal against us.2 we lost craig bellamy in that game and in that time bellamy was the key of our team…….
How could anyone sack a manger after getting us 4th 3rd and 5th wouldnt we love that now…
Souness came in and took a top 4 team into a mid table team and he had 50 million plus to spend to on new players to make us a really title team……..has to be the worst manager ever???everyone agree…….
Roeder came in worked hard……….but lets face it he is hardly ever going to speak up in the dressing room to get the best out of players that guy would defo not motivate me…
I think big sam was abit harsh on him…i think alot of ppl forget what he did at bolton on limited funds……..lets be real for minute he had to sell parker to get barton obviously not much funds…………ashley wouldnt give him much cash…….he already admited that he had to get some defenders in ……so he had to get his 2nd choice defenders in faye beye and rozenhal and cacapa………..his first choices defenders were distin and heinze if he was given more wage budget he would of got them players in……wouldnt our team be much stronger then???the only thing i didnt get was him buying smith that was a terrible choice but i dont think viduka was a bad signing it wasnt big sams fault he kept getting injured he was a free and a proven premiership scorer………
In my opinion newcastle will be mid table for years to come and ppl who think any differently need there heads tested……….
The old board might not have being smart in terms of finances…
but newcastle united has turned into A no ambtion club……..
Look at man city just look at them they have soo much cash to spend like so much because there owner has AMBITION….
WHAT REALLY ANNOYS ME
is teams like aston villa man city
were just like us a team going nowhere fast……..
what happens aston villa bring a good manager in martin o neill who seems to really be getting them places
mark hughes is a talented manager he will get man city places
spurs look at them ramos as manager he is a great manager………….
look at us instead of moving forward making progress what do we do???
we get kevin keegan….
now i know alot of toon fans love keegan after what he did for this football club
but this man is all about spending the cash and just attack attack
this aint the olden days these days there is alot better defenders who play on the counter attack……..
newcastle wont be winning 4-3 no more maybe just the odd time
look at us against man united aston villa got thumped 5-1 4-1
kevin keegan hasnt got a clue….
just my view
obviously i like to be proven wrong
because newcastle will be always in my heart
but i think everyone will agree with me its sad to see such a fantastic football club go from champions league contenders into relagation candidates…………
dont be fooled atall
newcastle with a good season next season
11th at best

Stephen..
How can you say keegan doesnt no what he is doing anymore. Since keegan switched to a 4-3-3 against birmingham everyone could tell we were on the rise again and we had a seven game unbeaten streak. towards the end of the season in my opinion we were a strong team and dare i say the back four looked decent aswell. with the right players i think we could be well end up the top end of the table..
the reason we lost all those games was because fat sam lost endless amount of games and the players after that had no motivation.. we just needed a positive result again to send us in the right direction. and you can see how much it helped when we had one agaist birmingham..
so you have no right in saying KK doesnt no what he is doing anymore.. i think he is an amazing manager and im sure everyone agrees with me apart from you that is…
17 Hadrian // Jun 16, 2008 at 2:40
he made me a fortune last night !!!!!!!!!! i backed them to win at 2-0 down
love the guy !
18 Geordie // Jun 16, 2008 at 2:54
NUFC can kiss goodbye to getting Turan simply because the fat stingy ass chairman ain’t going to raise Turan’s bidding price which would have spiral after the Euro 2008. Furthermore, Mr fat ass was too naive to know that NUFC has nothing interms of European football to offer to any big players besides cash. But with his cost savings measures, in order to feed his own fat ass we are not going to get any decent players to push us nearer to the top 4. FAT HOPE.
19 Geordie // Jun 16, 2008 at 3:02
Stephen is right to mention that the new management has no ambition whatsoever to bring NUFC to a higher level. I would add that the main reason was, these people are simply out to make money but has no true Geordie hearts to see NUFC succeed. Just look at how Sam was not able to get good players in, instead all the cheaper second rated players were brought in. Look at Moric, from Croatia which we lost to Spurs and now more people is asking to go, including Milner, because the club is simply lacking in ambition. I am not surprise if we would lose Owen and Martins simply because the fat ass and team treasure their pockets more than the players and NUFC.
20 Have you ever seen a mackem in Milan? // Jun 16, 2008 at 3:10
People saying he is out of our reach now he has scored 2 goals i think are making a big deal out of it. The first goal he scored was by a lucky deflection but he has scored 1 goal all by himself. If we make a bid that is acceptable to Gala then we stand a good chance of getting him. Renember who have said Petrov and Elano would have signed for City and they finished below us.
21 steven1979 // Jun 16, 2008 at 4:21
Arda is just unbelievable!!!
Unfortnutely we can never get him!!
i just laugh to my mates that compare him with players like Zhirkov or Modric..he is pretty better than them..This kid has a spirit to win..same spirit had before maradona..
Im sure we’ll see him in 2-3 years one of the top clubs of europa (real or barca)..
but i still believe that b4 Euro begins we had a chance to get him..but we didnt want to give 12M..i think KK will be happ if we can sign hi today for 15m..just stupid..
22 craig chisholm // Jun 16, 2008 at 4:43
we have no chance of getting turan lads- foeget it. we could not close out on the bloke before the euros and that was with him openly saying he wanted to come and with his club openly saying the price to us. We still could not do the deal. And you think we can now??? we had a chance and with every game now Turan’s stock is going up and up. its too late.
23 azim // Jun 16, 2008 at 4:54
hei stephen ….the reason we are here is sir bobby himself and mr shepherd….Sir bobby sold solano and replace him with milner who was unproven player at that time and at that season solano was named A Villa player of the season and i think you how much we missed him that season…bellamy had a discipline problem and you remember that he dont want to play at the right.. sir bobby also bought mr bowyer who is total rubbish…totally our team lost respect to mr bobby.. for me mr shepherd should sack sir bobby at the beginning of the season(summer) and brings in any top euro manager or atleast appointed MR Mark Hughes rather than Sounnes
24 neeraj // Jun 16, 2008 at 5:09
stephen
how can u say new management doesnt have any ambitions???
bid for modric- 17 miil pound, gomis another 10
and now there is news we are going for ashravin
how can u say spending 200 thousand a week on a out of form, ill, unfit player who once was grt ambition??? this is foolishness
the management wants to take the club to a stable league as well as they want club to be stable in terms of finances……
we surely dont want club to be the next leeds
coz we all knew wat happened with leeds, the chairman showed ambition paid extra cash, now they dont have cash to pay for 2nd div players…
u say big sam was treated harshly, he didnt let them play their natural game, instead made them play his own game, which worked for bolton, but doesnt guarantee success everywhere, he made signings and didnt had faith in them ( enrique and geremi ) and was agrt fan of the most defensive striker in the world smith( 6mill)
i still feel next season we can be in top 8.
and abt last night the best match of tourney so far, man the game had everything from misses, red cards, make shit keeper. and most impressively a GRT COMEBACK .
i hope we can get turan, because his statements before the tourney suggested he is willing to play for newcastle, i hope it doesnt change……..
25 xfer // Jun 16, 2008 at 5:55
Dont be impatient. Its still too early to say the board lacks ambition. Just because we didnt sign him before the euros started doesnt show anything. There could be other factors behind it, which we will never know.
Football, apart from passion, is a business. We need to run it professionally and not be held hostage to crazy transfer fees.
So far, i think the board is doing well with all its measures, makes lots of sense for the future.
Lets give the board some time before calling them names.
26 Merve // Jun 16, 2008 at 6:13
hi from istanbul.
don’t think as you weren’t able to get him, galatasaray wouldn’t have sold him before euro 2008 because he was expected to play this well during the tournament, also they didn’t want to disturb Turkish national team with transfer news and stuff..
But i have to admit, I don’t want him to go to Newcastle. It’s just, he is very very important for GS fans that we would love him to play for the clubs like Barça, Man Utd., Liverpool if not for GS.

Merve - So what, you should be grateful when any of the Germanic peoples pay attention to the eastern hordes and their footballers.
28 Ant // Jun 16, 2008 at 7:53
Merve - You are joking? Liverpool? I’d rather see him rot in the Man U reserves. On the note of Turan, who’s going to sign him?
Man U - Ronaldo, Giggs, Nani, can do better anyway
Chelsea - Plenty of cover and again, can do better
Liverpool - If he goes to those tossers I will strip naked and down 10 pints on Greys Monument an hour before KO of our first home game!
Arsenal - Doesn’t fit and not french
He’s not good enough for the best teams. He’s certainly good but nowhere near world-class.
The Milan’s, Barca, Real….They won’t want him.
He will be looking for European football, but he’s young and can afford to wait a season, if it’s true we met with him and he wanted to come it’s probably because the club showed they can offer something exceptional. There must be a reason he put himself on a plate and said he wants to join us and I doubt it’s just wages.
Chances are our board has shown some serious ambition and will prove the doubters wrong over the course of the transfer window and the next few seasons.
Those who have automatically dropped us from the top 6 are outrageous. As are those who defend FSA.
Apart from the Arse, Manure and Chelski, I expect us to give every team in the league a run for their money.
Bring in one Emre-esque CM and honestly, with the team we had last year, there’s no doubt in my mind Keegan can send us up to the top….We will DEFINATELY be in Europe after next season, whether we win a cup or finish up the top.
In the words of Bill F, a bloke who seems to realise NUFC is not doomed to fail…
The future is bright, the future is black and white!
29 clinta // Jun 16, 2008 at 8:01
Matthew agree!! i think we tried to get a deal done for arda pre tournament but his club rightly so thought it’d be better business to give him some exposure in the euros first, so anyone angry about this well….. you can’t buy a player if a club don’t want to sell him- simple!
Stephen, i read most of your little spiel and agree KK is a step backwards or a step sideways at least, and i’ve said it before on this sight, we neede oneill when he was availabe? and since that time we should of gone for someone on the continent with european experience who knows and understands the modern game, someone with a proven record that will attract quality players to our club (see spurs now as an example of this, they seems to be able to sign anyone they go for with ramos in charge)
what’s KK done in management in football? we love him fair enough, but all his done is nearly get us a title once, his well liked and known in england, but in the rest of europe i doubt it?!
30 whatever // Jun 16, 2008 at 8:16
he is good enaugh to play in best teams because he has passion and he can take responsability that is the importance if you watch Czech-Turkey match you’re gonna understand me. And the most important think is these are not new. When he played his first match in Galatasaray he was 19 and absolutly he could take responsability that time too so he may not be the one of the fastest players in the world but he exactly is self-reliant you can see when he dribbles also you should look at man. untd forums too because they don’t think like you do…(my english is not good sorry for mistakes)

Stop saying if we had agreed the deal in time. We did agree a deal with his club in time, but were told the player wants to wait until after the Euros to decide which club he wants to go to.
We have been given permission to speak to him after the Euros.
Not sure what else our board could have done
33 HeronMag // Jun 16, 2008 at 9:12
I can’t believe the pessimism of Newcastle fans these days.
‘Oh no, Arda had a good game, we’ll never get him…’
Why not!? We’re a big club with a reputation around Europe. We have a manager famous around the world who won European Player of the year twice. We have a billionaire chairman and a 55,000 seater stadium.
The ONLY negative factor is that we aren’t in Europe this season.
For God’s sake lads, if the management have your attitude we really are screwed.

I think I **** my pants when Volkan got sent off
I thought it was a penalty at first. And then I saw Tuncay go in goal! Looks like Boro found their new keeper after having sold Mark Schwarzer!
Was really funny how much of a wuss a big guy like Koller can be :p Seems people aren’t really like what they appear to be. He cried for a foul on almost every occassion and then got pummeled by Volkan, lol. He must have made the mistake of commenting on Volkan’s hair! He turns into an angry bull when people do that. I’d say the excess use of hair gel gave Volkan confidence! (Man… why did he cut his hair
Now we can’t do the hair gel jokes on him no more)
Who was that person that won 750 quid or something for a 5 quid bet btw? Lol that’s insane. Whatcha gonna spend it on?

I’m not saying Arda will go to one of the clubs I have counted, right now. I wrote that to say, Galatasaray should be his choice if he doesn’t get calls from clubs that are as big as Liverpool, Man Utd. and so on.
It means that , in a way, I want him to stay. Because if he and his young teammates get experienced for a couple of years, than it’s a great chance that we’ll succeed in Europe again. By selling him our chances will get lower so if we lose the chance we should really get something in return. Money can be enough for the club itself but for the fans it’s seeing Arda playing very well for one of the most important European clubs. And I don’t want to offend you, i know you are Newcastle fans, I don’t want you to think I don’t respect you. But for me, Galatasaray is a more important club than Newcastle.
Of course he’ll be making his choice, he will actually think of improving himself and for the fact that he is already the best footballer in the Turkish League, he may choose to leave. If he decides that he’ll surely prefer Premier League because he already told so, during championship celebrations..
By the way he is not just playing too well for two matches.. I think I saw him for the first time two years ago and from that moment it was obvious he had something special. He was critiqued all the time, everyone thought he was too young for the attention and he would get spoilt.. The fact that he did not was very disappointing for the press… They tried to show his spoilt side but Euro 2008 proved them wrong again as his commentaries are not selfish, he is into the team spirit, he is not unrealistic about his hopes either. He has been a great footballer and a great man from the very beginning.
And about the match, after 2-0 it was so over for me.. I expected good football after that for an appropriate end to the tournament, and actually for our reputation. I guess I forgot the fact that good football brings goals too. As Petr Cech has already told before the match, Turkey can beat the strongest team in a good day and can lose to the weakest in a bad day. But i was about to have a heart attack so next time, i wish we will have our lucky fifteen minutes in the beginning, not at the end! But I’ve learned to be hopeful for the whole 90( 2) minutes. That’s the best part of the last two matches.
48 Seymour Butts // Jun 16, 2008 at 12:42
@ John - arda turan is a player we have been linked with continuously over the last couple of weeks and someone we know for a fact that we are after. That is why there is an article on him. Look, there are forty odd comments, so there must be some people intrested.
49 Spyro // Jun 16, 2008 at 12:46
Thing is merve, if he went to chelsea, man u, liverpool, arsenal he will not be good enough for first team
man u have nani on the bench
chelsea have malouda already, and will be aiming higher than the likes of turan now they have scolari anyway
arsenal have vela returning who wenger said will go straight into the first team
and liverpool have babel who is much better than turan
Tottenham have just signed Dos Santos and Modric, already have malbranque and are said to be interested in diego capel so i doubt they need turan also. The only teams i can see being interested in the prem are the likes of everton, aston villa, and manchester city. So you see, Newcastle United wont be such a bad choice for him
50 Kubilay // Jun 16, 2008 at 13:15
Dear friends, Arda has a sheer quality and characteristics of a leader who takes responsibility in bad situations like yesterday against Cech Rep. He’s very valuable for us and in the way of Hakan Sukur to become an idol for Galatasaray fans. So it’s not easy to have him with funny prices like 15 m pounds. He’s not a Cristiano Ronaldo but has the potential and personality to be better than him. He was asked if he’d like to move Chelsea by an UEFA reporter and his reply was “Only Galatasaray”, when the same question was asked to Ronaldo for Real Madrid, Cristiano’s attitude was “give me the money, I can gladly sell ManU fans for that money”. That’s the difference. I’m happy that Newcastle found an idiot customer Fenerbahce to get rid of Emre which is a totally bad investment in a player that is injured for lifetime. Galatasaray fans don’t want Arda to go anywhere and there’s no money invented to buy him unless he wants to leave. If that happens the bids should start from 50m since ManU is offered 130m for Ronaldo.
51 Merve // Jun 16, 2008 at 13:38
Yeah i see it. Of course he may prefer playing for Newcastle instead of sitting in the bench for another team.
I just wanted to describe how Gs fans looked at the situation.
You have to understand that it was hard to see our biggest hope Emre failing in Europe because of inconsistency and bad timing in club choices. (he could have gone directly to england from gs) Again Hasan ÅžaÅŸ who shined during World Cup 2002 has lost the chance by staying in Galatasaray. So Arda’s decision is very important. His timing and club choice must be right. We have the right to have worries and big hopes for him.

Newcastle are the perfect platform for Arda Turan. They’re a big premiership club, with a passionate fanbase who would take him to heart almost as much as his own Galatasaray supporters if he did well.
Look at Solano - when he peaked at Newcastle Real Madrid wanted him but he chose to stay here because he loved it so much.
Turan could enjoy the same kind of bond with the fans if he signs and does well.

51 times (27) Not mixing your words as per.
Just watched You Tube video (14).
Those were the days ok.fat freddy made some big decisions but sacking Sir Bobby has to be the worst and disrespectful to a geordie legend.
Brong Sir Bobby back to the club in some capacity (health allowing) am sure KK would love to have his input and advice.
Watched the Turkey game last night and very much doubt we will get Arda Turan now. He was awesome.
What I will say on the matter is MA and KK should do as it used to say on my old school reports every year…..
MUST TRY ‘ARDA. Ha!!!

??? Wenger wants Arda? How reliable is that source? Do they usually get stuff right? Looks like Arda’s gonna have to learn some French starting from “Je suis un fromage”.
And lol good one Frankieboy

Due to the apparent lack of ambition, and the rumored drop in morale in the team, alot of our star players will leave. This may well be our starting line-up next season (not joking!)
GK: Harper
RB: Beye
CB: Faye
CB: Edgar
LB: Tozer
DM: Butt
LCM: Harper
RCM: Geremi
ST: Viduka
ST: Ngo-Baheng

So you’re saying we won’t have 11 starting players. Ha.
Such fools on here.

Arda didn’t exactly set the world alight, but instead he looked absolutley solid, with a level head and great vision. He seems more down to earth and has a lot of passion, KK is the right person to turn him into a genuine well loved premiership star. If we get him and can keep him we might start going places !
