Cameroon and Geremi Held By Liberia

Newcastle United midfielder Geremi played the full game for Cameroon, as they were held to a goalless draw against Tanzania in Dar Es Salaam, in a World Cup qualifier yesterday.

Geremi - played full game for Cameroon

The draw leaves Cameroon just one point clear of the Cape Verde Islands at the top of their four-country group.

There are 12 African groups and the 12 group winners and eight best runners-up advance to the next stage of qualifying, for the World Cup, which will be in South Africa in two  years time.

Cameroon will again face the Tanzanians next weekend in Yaounde.

Senegal were two goals up in their qualifier with bottom placed Liberia, but slipped to second in their group following the draw with the bottom-placed country.

Habib Beye has retired from International football and Abdoulaye Faye did not play in the game for his native Senegal.

Nigeria (Oba Martins) are currently top their group with a 100% record after three games.

In other World Cup qualifying games yesterday, a shock for Brazil, as they were defeated 2-0 by Paraguay, in front of 35,000 spectators at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Ascunsion.

Paraguay played with just 10 men after right back Dario Veron was handed a second yellow card for a tackle from behind, just 2 minutes into the second period.

Brazil now have a home qualifier with Argentina on Wednesday, and it looks like former captain and now coach, Dunga, is under some pressure.

Comments welcome.

Somebody PLEASE come and take Geremi off our hands.
