Newcastle have again been linked with Tottenham pair Michael Dawson and Aaaron Lennon today in the Daily Mirror.
Michael Dawson and Aaron Lennon – double bid by Magpies?
We’d be very happy to see young Aaron Lennon at Newcastle, as we’ve reported over the last couple of days, but we’re not so sure about Michael Dawson.
He fits the blueprint of players Ashley wants at the club, being just 24 years old and having appeared over 100 times for the London club.
But the 6’2″ defender is still prone to errors, and certainly didn’t have a good game at St. James’ Park on October 22nd last year, when we beat Tottenham 3-1, in what turned out to be the last game in charge for manager Martin Jol.
The defender is said to be happy at Spurs but could be further pushed down the pecking order, if Juande Ramos’ transfer ventures are successful in the summer.
Newcastle and Keegan will try to sign young players this summer and both Dawson, 24, and Lennon, 21, have the added advantage of considerable Premier League experience.
Kevin was back at his desk yesterday, and no doubt will have been brought up to date on the situation with our transfer dealings and contract negotiations.
We were hoping for an interview yesterday, but all was quiet, but maybe Kevin will talk today to the press, so we can better gauge what’s going on.
Comments welcome.

Comment #6Both are out of form but are definately talented.
They were hugely influential in Spurs successive 5th place finshes.
Bracewell, Venison, Lee, Howey, Clark, Ginola, Beardsley, Asprilla, Beresford, Wright-Phillips, Dunne, Benarbia, Anelka, Owen, Butt, Enrique, Beye and Barton are examples of what KK can do with players who are talented but arent fulfilling their abilities or are past it (Apparently)
I would personally try for both.

Comment #7we need someone to steady the ship at the back and make other defenders calm the way woodgate did with titus oops i did it again bramble, dawson will never be able to do that, rather break the bank for collocini, providing he gets rid of the mullet

Comment #13would sign both .lennon good value at 6mill ,dawson good at 4mil.lennon gives competition for milner and dawson for taylor.the club and its first team have had no real competition for places for a few years now.every fan could virtually pick which team will play whether on form or not.not healthy,we need more players quick so they can settle before it all starts.forget all these euro stars.they aint comin.sound out hungry players that want to come.haway the lads

Comment #16Not impressed with Dawson. He had the talent and huge potential when he was at Forrest. He just hasnt developed or produced the goods since going to Spuds.
He’s probably better off staying where he is, dont think he will improve what we have.

Comment #17from nufc.com.. another goal keeper
Star of CCTV
From The Geelong Advertiser, Australia:
Young Surf Coast goalkeeper Tom Dunn has been invited for a second trial with English Premier League giant Newcastle United.
The 16-year-old will head back to the UK at the end of the local season to be further assessed by Newcastle, following a successful first trial in September last year.
“I’m pretty determined to make it in England, I want to take my soccer career as far as I can,” Dunn said.
“I’m looking forward to going back and giving it a good go. My favourite player growing up was Alan Shearer and I really like Shay Given too, so to play for them would be amazing.”
Goalkeeper Dunn has produced a number of eye-catching displays for Surf Coast in Provisional League 3 this season, having come through the ranks after joining the Torquay club as a seven-year-old.
A family holiday to England last year handed Dunn an unlikely opportunity to shine at Newcastle after his father Richard, a former goalkeeper himself, contacted the club on the off-chance of securing a trial.
“We sent a fax to them asking if I could get a look in and they invited me to their training facilities,” Dunn said.
“It was a bit intimidating going in through the big gates with the Newcastle United badge on them. A couple of autograph hunters came up to have a look at us, but then realised we weren’t anyone and walked away again.
“I met Newcastle’s junior goalkeeping coach who put me through a few drills. I’d never been trained like that before – I stretched muscles I never knew I had.”
Struck by Dunn’s athleticism and ability to hold the ball under pressure, Newcastle invited the Oberon High School youngster back for a further training session a few days later.
“I didn’t know at the time, but the floodlights had cameras in them which filmed the games,” Dunn recalled.
“They looked at the tape to see how I did between drills, whether I was the most enthusiastic one out there or not. Afterwards, we spoke on the phone to Terry Gennoe (Newcastle’s former senior goalkeeping coach), who said he was very impressed and that I had a good presence in the area.”

Comment #18taylors better than dawson and i’m not really that struck on him, makes some costly blunders, again theres much better options out there like cuellar for example, cool headed and plays well against good opposition

Comment #19Lennon for 6millon would be steal considering how much potential he’s got. I’m aware that his crossing ability is generally poor but there’s always room for improvement and he’s still just a kid.
He’s got one of the traits we desperately need in midfield – blistering pace – and for that reason I’d be happy to make a couple of mil from selling Jimmy and getting Lennon.
Keegan can improve Lennon, give his game the attention it needs, nurture him the way he needs to be. Go get ‘im.
As for Dawson, I’d much rather have Cuellar but Dawson would be good cover. He’s really not that great though, no better than Taylor and I’d prefer to get someone better than Taylor to partner Faye.

1) he is sh1t and no better than what we have?
2) we need an experiened CB for Taylor, Edgar and Kadar to learn from….why do we need another young CB?

Comment #21Dawson is a white Bramble, he made blunder after blunder last season, have already had my Spurs mates on the phone laughing at us taking rejects.
I really hope this aint true although we should jsut about manage to scrape out of relegation places next seasons due to Hull/ Stoke being most likely to go straight back down – we’ll prob be fighting West Brom / Sunderland for other spot

Comment #23this story comes from the mirror, which means theres probably not a shread of truth in it, crap paper that just prints any old shite, we wont find out a thing untill we sign someone thats the way ashley runs the ship now, any rumour from a “source” or club insider is just totall bollocks

Comment #28anal has done a story in todays comical stating that we are not selling milner and that this probably means we will drop the interest in lennon so he’s turned a complete circle in what he reported the other day, in fact he’s gatting so desperate now for stories he mentions that warren barton is going to live in america, like we give rats arse about that, time to put the laptop away anal and give up, i mean whats it going to be tommorow where feckin silvio maric is going on his hols

Comment #29I’m not overly impressed with either Dawson or Lennon. Lennon shows some flash, but thats about it. I consider Zog a much more promising player. Dawson is a trainwreck, boy blunder. Hes best left with the spuds.

colloccini, mathijsen or hobbs if we want another centre back.
good news above about that australian, dunn. even if shay was to leave, which he won’t, we’ll need to start giving timmy krul some games soon, he has a big future ahead of him

Lennon Definitely. Keegan can convince him of the merits of learning to cross the ball. With his pace on the right and Zog on the left, service to Owen and Martins would be very good.
I also think, with a bit of polishing, Lennon would be able to take Geremi’s spot in the 4-3-1-2 we were using at the end of the season. That would frighten the sh1t out of most defences.

By the way I have been advocating Schweinsteigger for the last 2 years.
