Newcastle United manager Kevin Keegan has said he believes Argentine new signing Jonas Gutierrez will become a real star to the Newcastle United fans.

Jonas Gutierrez - will be big star on Tyneside
Newcastle moved very quickly to get then Real Mallorca winger earlier this month, amd he penned a 5 year deal at the club.
It seems that Jonas was so keen to get to Tyneside, that he turned up for training last Monday, one week earlier than he had been told to report. That’s a really good sign, for sure.
And it seems to be that attitude, character and determination that made Kevin jump at the chance to sign the Argentine, when he became available.
Kevin has given a glowing appraisal of Gutierrez, as he spoke to nufcTV:
“Jonas was told he could come in next week but he has come in this week, that tells you a little bit about his character,”
“He’s 25 years of age and is a very fit boy, very determined and very professional and I think the crowd are going to like him - he’s top class.”
Keegan was asked if he thinks Gutierrez is the type of player who will excite Geordie fans, and Kevin continued:
“Definitely. He is the sort of player who can excite the fans.” “I think they’ll love him for a lot of reasons.”“But the main thing, apart from his pace, is that whoever plays up front will like him because he is a supplier of goals.”
“Daniel Guiza, the guy who has just gone to Fenerbahce from Mallorca won the Golden Boot in Spain and that means he scored more goals than anyone else at the likes of Real Madrid.”
“A key part of that was Jonas and the crosses that he provided and we’ve got that now.” “There’s a lot of competition for those two wide places because he can play right or left, they’re his two best positions.”
“He’s the real deal, He’s not just somebody who has come and you think he’s a bit of a chancer, he’s proven and I think they’ll like him.” “But that’s for him to decide by his performances and them for how they appreciate it.”
As we’ve said, we think the two lads we have brought in are excellent, and will improve our squad.
It also looks like Gutierrez could be a corker.
We just need at least another five, and then we’ll be in business for next season.

He is going to be a class player for us, people may be a little suspicious about him because they may not have heard of him before hand, but he will succeed here… Bring in Arda Turan as well now!
3 Leo // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:36
top notch i say, sounds like he is keen to get going, i heard he was fast but what keegan is saying it sounds like he is very very fast
cant wait to see him play, does anyone know if there is anywhere to see the pre season friendly with pool as i cant get to the game?

6 Spyro // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:38
i wouldnt love Arda for any more than 10 or 11million, he just isn’t worth anymore than that
7 Dave // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:41
Ed, i’ve been trying to comment on the Danny Guthrie story but my last few comments haven’t appeared, any reason why?
8 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:41
arda rumours were widely circulated in the media so dont be surprised to not see him in a newcastle shirt any time soon.
there were far too much paper talk about arda for it to be true.
9 Leeg123 // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:43
arda will be coming i guarantee that if not i wont blog again
10 faustino // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:43
Bang on Spyro…was talking about him yesterday on another board. Everythings gone quiet as far as he’s concerned cos who’s gonna pay +10million for a player un proven in any of the big leagues?
Usually it would have been us.
11 Whumpie // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:44
‘Just’ another five. That’s going to take some doing!
Still, there’s been no sign of Wisey in my local for a few weeks, so he’s working hard somewhere…
12 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:44
Leeg123 you wont be blogging for much longer buddy.
arda will not sign.. we have just signed gutierez
13 toonfan1 // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:44
how do you know leeg123?
14 gorskino10 // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:46
Now we need a striker who can score from the crosses :).
15 Black and White Blood // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:46
Does anyone posses news regarding the scheduled press conference on Monday - I’m at a loss. I hope its new signings!
16 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:47
there is no press conference.
the press would have to know about it as its for their purpose and there has been no mention of it in the press.
17 ObaFan2 // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:50
Agree Ed, both the 2 new signings sound good and will add good competition for places this season.
18 Eyeball // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:56
Agree with Gorskino10
We need a decent striker who can get on the end of the crosses hes whips in, Like that Derdiyok kid or get Andy carroll on the weights to beef him up abit then he’ll frighten defenders cos hes a handful at the minute!!!
19 Black and White Blood // Jul 18, 2008 at 12:59
@ Broon Ale - thanks bud…
I was reading whilst obviously believing previous posts on the prior threads by Brave Toon - Doh…
…That said, when will Keegan give an interview to the press, or more specifically, when will our two new signings be given their official unveiling..?
I’m sorry Keegan’s not the “Special One†he’s quite simply GOD, not A God but they GOD!!!

Striker (Target Man)

If we get these buys I’ll personally bring over a pint of guiness from Ireland and give it to Ashley..
21 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:02
black and white blood.
keegan hasn’t stopped talking to the official website.
i personnaly dont care if he doesnt talk to the press as long as he comunicates with the fans via the official website.
everything he says will end up on this website and we will all be able to pick the bones out of his words
22 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:05
Seems like KK sees young Guthrie as an understudy to Butt and a future defensive midfielder, so im a little releived to be honest… I thought he was going to be our playmaker, but i guess we’re still looking then.
23 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:06
sweendog… I know that Diego is unhappy at Bremen, but do you really think we could get him?… He is at an champs league club mind you, and we wont offer big wages anymore it seems.
24 Hadji // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:10
No chance for Diego,if we had a different owner maybe yes but with MA in charge we can only dream about him.
25 sweendog // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:11
Valle .. keegan always has a surprise top signing .. he’ll be hard to get but with Keegan talking to him you never know .. if we can break the bank for Owen’s wages we can break the bank for Diego’s .. seeing as these 2 are vital to being top 6 .. and I don’t think Ashley would mind paying big for somebody whos gonna sell a hell of a lot of shirts..
26 sweendog // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:12
Also the key bit to this is Keegan is happy .. he must have a top signing imminent.. no doubt about it ..
27 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:15
Well… Here is hoping
28 DURhamTOON // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:18
I have a feeling that the press conference has been called on monday either because thats when Guthrie and Gutierrez were told to report to the club or because the club has anticipated some new signings and i must say i hope its the latter.
Jonas will be a great addition to our first team and i believe that when both in regular first team football Guthrie is no worse than Sidwell but with a smaller price tag.
29 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:18
I had never heard of jonas, but it makes me wonder why no top clubs in spain were after him. Also with rafa and ramos both seemingly after bentley, why didnt they go after him. Both managers would have known about him. Is this one of the cockeyed twats signings who was just impressed with the spiderman mask.
30 sweendog // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:23
Jonas is a typical winger that Keegan likes .. fast and gets the crosses in .. maybe the rest of his game isn’t perfect but them 2 points alone are good enough for me .. probably similar to Ruel fox .. very shrewd signing IMO
31 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:24
agnetha… Well, considering that all the top clubs were chasing Euro 08 hottest stars like Arsharvin it could be that we got a lucky break… Tell you what, if we get Diego tomorrow, then i would be quite happy that none of the big clubs were after him.
32 ObaFan2 // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:24
He’s an Argentine international so he must have some ability and looking forward to seeing him play. He also seems to have a good attitude.
33 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:29
Its not that just the big clubs werent after him. nobody was. After kk had made clear his interest do you not think jonas agent would have alerted as many clubs as possible to get the best deal for his client. His agent would have seen if there were any clubs in the champs league or uefa cup who were interested before advising his client where to go.Thats his job.Thats how it works.
34 John // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:30
Must say well Done again to Keegan for defusing the whole negativity about missing out on players and reassuring everyone that he will bring quality..

agnehta- how come pompy had a 7mil bid rejected for him then and man city wer also interested, he bought out his contract cos he wanted tom come to newcastle, simple
36 faustino // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:32
Off topic -Just re-reading bits of the Keegan interview. Do you think his ‘wouldn’t look a gift horse in the mouth’ as far as older players were concerned quote was a veiled reference to Frings?
37 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:34
agnetha… It could be a condition from our part that the deal was kept silent, and if all parties are happy then i see no reason why his agent HAS to be like so many others of those money grapping vultures… Lets not be neagative when something actually goes our way huh?
38 ObaFan2 // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:34
I thought that too faustino.
39 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:35
how do you know pompey and city were after him. He wasnt linked to anyone until the news broke he signed. The papers just throw in a couple of names and act as though they knew about it all along.
40 Sun'lun's Burnin' // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:35
Whats happening with Arda?? all rumours seem to have gone dead…..Juve were linked but they have since said their transfers are done for the summer…..Silence from NUFC aswell, his agent has shut up aswell. There were no Jonas or Guthrie rumours before we signed them so maybe DW & co are completing another sly deal!!?! I Hope!!
Also i cant believe we didnt go for Guiza! He is EXACTLY what we need! and im sure playing alongside Owen/Martins in England would be more of a lure than playing Turkish league and first stage of champs league if they are even in it!!
41 ObaFan2 // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:36
agnetha, Pompey bid for him in Dec/Jan ?
42 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:36
agnetha… How do you know anything you read in the papers are true, unless you where there to see it yourself.
43 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:38
it could also of been a reference to aimar
44 valle // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:38
sun’lun… Mysterious… Its the same with Veloso who we where also linked with.
45 ObaFan2 // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:42
It’s great that NUFC are keeping their signings quiet however we cannot rely on the players agents or their clubs to keep quiet.
If the agents are talking about us I now believe it’s rubbish and it’s their attempt at getting more money for the player and themselves.
46 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:44
I am just very underwhelmed by our signings so far. I thought MA and KK was the dream ticket but it appears i was wrong. It makes me sick seeing teams like bolton, man city and pompey spending big. these are the teams that i expected to finish above but as it stands if we went into the seaon with what we have i would be very worried. Signing reseve players from other teams doesnt fill me with confidence either.
It doesnt matter how much KK tries to reassure the fans i dont see any progress. The club already gets mocked by rival fans and the media so what does the club do regarding joey barton. It sticks by the little thug.
Its time MA splashed some cash or sells up. Even sell up to the BinLadens if they are going to spend on the team. Kevin Keegans terrorist army!
47 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:46
ObaFan2 - i agree with you there.
its safe to say that if we are linked with a player in the press. its bull shine!
therefore we can get on with our lives and forget about arda, arshavin, derdiyok and veloso.
our signings will no doubt contunue to take place under a cloak of secrecy.
i am positive our scouting network is more extenstive than sunderlands if the rumour is true about them simply knocking the door of spurs with 23 million in hand for 4 cast off’s!
48 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:47
agnetha - would you not think he would have done that anyway even if no other clubs were sniffing around? so it has nothing to do with who was interested in him dumb***
49 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:48
agnetha- if you feel underwhelmed at our signings does that mean you would of been overwhelmed if we had signed jo, elemander or crouch?
50 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:53
broon ale i would have been delighted with those 3 players. at least those teams are showing ambition. the guthrie signing shows a lack of ambition in my opinion . If we start building for the future by blooding loads of kids we will get relegated.
51 Ever seen a mackem in Milan? // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:54
Berba going to Man U and just when we thought we would be safe
52 broon ale // Jul 18, 2008 at 13:57
i think you might just be in the minority there agnetha. ellemander is not what we need at all.
never seen jo play so it;s not fair to comment but he was huge money.
same for crouch who i have seen and my opinion is that he is no where near a 11 million quid player.
53 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 14:04
broon ale. None of these players are worth what they are moving for or whats being quoted. But we have to pay the going rate if we are to improve. We cant afford to start finishing behind these teams as they will just get stronger and we will be even less attractive to players than we already are.
I am concerned that sunderland have 50mill to spend. They werent to far behind us last season and if they start signing top notch players the abuse i will get at work will be unbearable.
54 ObaFan2 // Jul 18, 2008 at 14:09
agnetha, even if the Mackems have £50 mill they still have to spend it wisely and paying £23 mill to Spurs isn’t imo.
Don’t bite at other fans taunts, water of a ducks back after 40 years of no trophys lol.
I am personally pleased in the direction the clubs going. Jo might be a good player but they paid way over the top for him.
Value for money is MA’s aim and why not. People keep mentioning the Gooners and Whiners buys and that’s a great template to follow.

, its just that i haven’t seen that spurs mug on here in a while, havent spoken to you in a little while, not since the Inler saga when you thought we should bid anything up to 10million for him, you still think that? i dont think he is worth a penny over 7 or 8 mill as he is unproven myself
64 agnetha // Jul 18, 2008 at 14:35
thats alright spyro. I have seen he has ruffled a few feathers on here.
Kaler someone mentioned on the sentinal site on newsnow that they were arranging a press conference for monday but seen nothing in the papers or on sky/setanta.

SSN news saying we are in talks with West Ham over Anton Ferdinand.
Would be a good addition to our squad?
66 brave new toon // Jul 18, 2008 at 15:26
@black and white blood,
Doh.. Mate i never said anything about a press conferance on monday..never even mentioned it.
I did say “new signing..or..s will be announced by Sunday night… Monday allowing for heel dragging
And I did say Guthrie wasn’t bought as a squad player.. He was bought as a intrigal part of the side.. to be played inside right.
All parties involved in potential transfers, including agents and players are bound to a condition of silence, (the only leak being one of Danny G’s mates.. who was quickly shut up) Thats why IMO the Larsson deal won’t happen.
For everyone who needs proof.. and or names, I can’t tell you. i don’t know. I’m just relaying
67 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 15:35
agnetha - for some reason i had it stuck in my head you were fernando - so I appologies for being overly harsh
brave new toon - so this could be why inler and aimar were never signed? Leaky agents?
68 brave new toon // Jul 18, 2008 at 15:46
I’m not sure we were really after Aimar…
but yeah.. I think it’s zero tolerance, ‘talk and we’ll leave it, find someone else’ ‘ if you want to do buisiness with nufc, do it properly and with integrety, or not at all…
69 harrier // Jul 18, 2008 at 15:49
thats wonderful to hear. we won’t let anybody push us over anymore or jeopardise our dealing - no bidding wars can be started to increase prices etc.
So you just heard that there will be some signings by Sunday/Monday but not the whose or whats?
PS - Arshavin and Turan’s agents have gone quiet suddenly
;)

I know., Silence is Golden. I’d love to see Arda at the club,. he really looks like a Keegan player..
He’d be my number 1 choice by far..
He’s big mates with Emre, so i just hope he does a decent job of selling the club and the city.
whether is feasable or not i don’t know..
