The Sunday Sun are reporting today that Newcastle United are considering a move for former Sunderland target, and Steaua Bucharest center-back Dorin Goian.
Dorin Goian - fresh Newcastle interest?
Dorin has been rumored to have Newcastle’s interest since last December according to our archives, and he certainly performed well for Romania in Euro 2008.
At 6′ 5″ he should be great in the air, but you also have to be quick of foot in the Premier League.
Executive Director Dennis Wise and Technical Co-ordinator Jeff Vetere have already been in contact with the Romanian, and apparently have told him that a switch to St James’ Park, may be on the cards.
However, the decision on whether to bid for the Romanian International is the sole responsibility of Kevin Keegan, and we think he may try to bring in Carlos Cuellar from Glasgow Rangers, and maybe one or two others such as young Jonny Evans from the Red Devils, if he can do that.
Goian, 27, seemed ready to join Sunderland earlier last week, and had even said he wanted to go to the Stadium of Light. 
But it seems like Roy Keane pulled the plug on the deal, because the transfer fee was too high. The fee was quoted at £3.8M.
The only concern we have about him is if he is mobile enough, but still think he would add competition in central defense for Taylor, Faye, Edgar and Cacapa.
There are other clubs also interested in the player, such as Dinamo Kiev, along with a number of Spanish clubs, but we think if Kevin wants the Romanian we could do a decent deal for him.
Dorin has played 25 times for Romania, and turns 28 in December.

ed fergie said he was replacing pique who he sold to barca by bringing back evans, so i cant see him letting him go for anything other than top £.
rangers are skint though by the sounds of it and i think cuellar would be moved on regardless of whether he likes it or not to fund additions to there sqaud. they did it with hutton a die hard rangers lad so i doubt they would worry to much about cuellar.

he is ok he is good in the air but too slow he is a lot slower than taylor who against pacey defenders soom times looked a brambles with a bit more experiance taylor may have learned to cope but what we dont need is some one even slower though if we do sign him im sure hell be a good player as kev never in his managerial career that i can think of has bought a bad player

Tamas is way better goin to Celtic, he is 6′4 quick, and an organiser. Still though i wud want better than him. I would like us to get Zapata and Suchy. Insua at LB. Then in midfield i wud get Albeda on the cheap, for couple yrs and Kallstrom or Bodmer who is quality. Then Gomis.

It’s imperative we get the right signing in this position coz only Derby conceded more goals than us last season. I don’t know much about this guy. Gutted we missed out on Richard Dunne. I think we should go for Collocini & Cuellar.

But i agree we need mobile, good readers of the game type of CB, not brick outhouses. We have those in Faye and Taylor to a degree.

Gomis was cr*p at the Euros but then look at the players in the past who have shone at these competitions and done nowt afterwards. I would still like us to sign him I reckon he would be great in the EPL. I think Bodmer has already signed for someone else.
Bakary Kone seems to be desperate to leave (Bordeaux I believe) be a great addition to the team.

I cant see nothing wrong in the Name “Beye the great”, imo he is our best buy in years. And calling someone on this board a retard for that sole reason says either one of two things, either you arent a toon fan OR you have missed the whole point of being a supporter.

I think we’ll be getting one more centre half, and that’ll be Johnny Evans i think, its went quiet on his future so something could be being neogatiated, also he’s settled in the NE, and his girlfriend goes to Newcastle Uni so i think this story is a load of bollocks to be honest (aswell, sunderland are interested so he can’t be that good :P)
