News today coming through is that Turkish International Emre has been officially unveiled by Fenerbahce, after the club today announced the midfielder had signed a four-year deal.

Emre - finally joins Fenerbahce
The deal between the Turkish powerhouse club and Newcastle was announced during the Euro 2008 Championships.
The actual closing of the deal was held up so the player could complete his National Service.
Under Turkish law, any citizen who has lived outside the country for up to three years has to spend 15 months in the national service, but anyone returning after more than three years living abroad, which is the specific case of Emre, has to sign up for only 21 days of basic military training.
We assume Emre has now completed that training.
There was never any doubt that the Emre deal would finally be completed, we just had to wait a few weeks.
And speaking on signing for the Turks, Emre said:
“For many years I have tried to represent Turkish football in Europe.
“I am very happy to have come to Fenerbahce, and I hope I will serve this club for years.”
The player’s fee is yet to be disclosed, and most reports have it around £4M.
Emre was a very good player, but he was injured too much to have the major impact we would have liked.
With Newcastle now owned by Mike Ashley, there’s no legal requirement to say what the fee was.
Comments welcome.

this is a big loss the lad would always give a 100% and had lots of skill, shame but his injury record was terrible, lets hope keegan doesnt see guthrie as his replacement !!!!!
15 Bill F SPLASH THE CASH ASH // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:30
He was so nearly the player we yearned to have in the team, just didn’t happen somehow. The big thing that dissappointed me about him was his finishing, he would get into great positions and then blast the ball high or wide with the odd exception.
Still good luck to him in Turkey I am sure he will do well back in his own country.
16 Tom4Nufc // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:30
Just get players in quicky!
17 broon ale // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:30
the emre confirmation has probably surfaced because anal oliver has been hounding the club for a scoop for years so they eventually felt sorry for him and allowed him to report that emre has finaly left.
18 broon ale // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:32
i think the last scoop the chronicle had was when shearer signed. since then, oliver has managed to piss off every regime we have had in charge.
19 Drago // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:32
i’m glad that he’s gone, i dont think that we need a player which cant play three games in a row without injury…
20 micepie // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:33
Let’s sign him back! He’s just the sort of player we need!
21 Davies // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:36
Shame, I liked the little fella when he was fit. It wouldn’t surprise me if his injury problems go away now he’s going to Turkey, it seems to go that way with players we sell (except Bramble).
I don’t think we’ll see another signing for a little while yet. There are too many people saying how desperately needed signings are. Shay and KK have both said it in the last seven days. I would imagine Taylor has mentioned it in one of his many conversations with the press as well.
Give it a week or two. Hopefully there will still be enough training time to get a new signing bedded in a bit before the season kicks off.
22 Chris // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:37
Emre won’t be a big miss IMO. He was rarely fit anyway. If he’d been fit he’d have been a cracking player for us, but he didn’t stay fit enough to have a good run in the team. Good luck to him though.
23 Shearer#1 // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:40
Veloso and Moutinho are available and we’re watching small clubs like Everton bid for these players. Why aren’t we trying to sign them? Even for £15m + they would be good value because of their age. And does anyome know who the 2 defenders KK is talking about? He’s saying they’ll be signed (hopefully) before the game against Mallorca.
24 Kevin // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:42
@ Micepie - LMAO!
That’s a Fat Freddy move if I ever heard one!
So a little extra cash in the cauffers for MA to INVEST….RIGHT MIKE???
I’m getting a bit nervous here, lads. Another day, another disappointment. Day after day after day. Show of hands who thinks Owen will play this weekend….not me….
25 xfer // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:46
Very good player, one of the very few technically gifted players we have, unfortunately too injury prone. Good luck to the lad, he gives his all whenever he plays.

In football you don’t sell a key player (even if he was injured loads) unless you’ve got 1 lined up .. so if MA and wise know football there is a replacement coming .. if not then they’re amateurs
30 Terry Mac's Crossword // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:49

A sprinkling of good young’ns and i’d be happy!

32 micepie // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:50
Only joking of course, but – yes – his time with us was so disappointing when it could have been so much more. Emre was too one-footed though and I’d like to see a player who is comfortable with either foot in the centre.
I was watching a re-run of Everton v Arsenal on cable tv yesterday and thought how amazingly comfortable Arteta was on the ball, even under a lot of pressure. Not that we’d be able to get him, of course, and he plays too wide anyway. A player anything like as composed but who is happiest not drifting out wide would also be ideal.
33 Ever seen a mackem in Milan? // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:52
West Ham have signed Switzerland international Valon Behrami from Lazio in a £5m deal.
Behrami, 23, can play at right-back or on the right side of midfield and has signed a five-year contract.
West Ham actually have a good player now!!! It is the end of the world as we know it
34 The Entertainers // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:55
I would loved to have kept a fit Emre at Newcastle as he does offer something different, something we lack alot of, creativness.
However the words Emre and fit in the same sentance rarely appear and if we got anywhere near 4 million then thats a great deal.
I just hope Kev brings in someone creative, whether that be Mountinho, Fernandez or this lad from Norway…..i dont care, just as long as hes talented and creative.
I miss the Beardsley type player, no hang on i just miss Pedro!
35 Kevin // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:56
My full name is Kevin Federline, but you can call me K-Fed.
And I’m getting K-Fed-Up with Mike Ashley’s fat pockets.
We’ll all remember Emre for his amazing free kicks and fantastic creative play - but it’s a bit hard to remember since he only played around 4 matches for us. A great player, but I feel maybe not strong enough for the English game. I hope he does well in Turkey, but I’m also happy to hear we’ve gotten some money for him!
36 Eyeball // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:56
Glad to see the back of him…Yes he scored against the mackems, but as many of you have pointed out he was injured too much!
£4m + the £60k a week wages he was on that has to be money saved!!!
Now we can sign someone and pay the £30-£40k a week and still save money!!!
37 brownrob // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:57
Nah Behrami is a little overrated, he was poor at Euro 2008

39 Ever seen a mackem in Milan? // Jul 23, 2008 at 14:59
Yes but that doesnt mean he is a bad player. At least they are spending money. MA hasnt even spent his own money its the money off rozehnal and the other players we sold he is using atm.
40 Taiwantoon // Jul 23, 2008 at 15:02
I thought Behrami has to be really good.
It’s true that I didn’t watch much of his days in Italy but I got the impression that he was well trusted by his national team coach and team mates as many Swiss attacks were started from him. I mean..despite the fact that he was playing quite poor…he was still quite trusted. That’s my impression anyway.

We are going to have the smallest squad in football history at this rate.kk must have a few deals nearly tied up. I cant believe he would release so many players otherwise. With only 4 weeks left i hope so, but god help us if we pick up any injuries.
49 micepie // Jul 23, 2008 at 15:37
Probably no one will respond to this anyway ; 0 ]
But which 4 players would you sign (as that’s how many KK says he wants in) assuming that you have a modest budget of, say, 10M for one and max 5M each for the 3 others?
I’d probably be changing my mind all the time but I’ll pick 4 anyway:
METZELDER (10M)
WARNOCK (5M)
BULLARD (4-5M?)
DERDIYOK (who we could probably get for 5M)
And a couple more youngsters, 17/18, for next-to-nowt.
Champion!

56 macakane // Jul 23, 2008 at 15:47
I don`t think that we are so desperately needed another striker at this stage, we still have Caroll and i think Kevin will give him a chance next season, in my eyes Derdiyok is from the same mold, just because he played for swiss doesnt mean, he is such a great prospect, swiss footballing resources can`t be compared to english, and thats why he had a chance in swiss national side, more or less, hes goalscoring record in domestic league aint so brilliant. This is Englands biggest problem, prefer better foreigner.
57 WIGAZ // Jul 23, 2008 at 15:48
Well lets hope we replace our only creative midfielder (other one in jail) with someone with creativity! you want to win the fans over MA then put your hand in your pocket & go buy Arshavin! lets take advantage of other clubs humming & Harrinng! lets just say there you go Zeint £20m take it thank you, here’s no8 shirt Andrei now go & tear Rio & vidic apart 1st game of the season & every other CB & CM in the league after that! it needs to be done!!!!
58 harrier // Jul 23, 2008 at 15:48

Quite frankly, you are the sort of idiot than constantly embarrasses the good name of Newcastle United.
Where do you get this unfounded ridiculous arrogance from that clubs like Newcastle are “huge” and clubs like Everton are not?
Have the numbnuts of the week award you arrogant twit!
66 craig chisholm // Jul 23, 2008 at 16:04
well, now with emre gone and another 4 million in the bank to add to the several million that we already brought in from the rozza deal and others we have now brought in about 8 million and spent about 3. we might break the bank and go for a player costing more than 2 million in this next week if we are lucky.
67 Kevin // Jul 23, 2008 at 16:06
Here are my four:
Insua
Larsson
Turan (Big buy)
Jon Parkin (Unleash the Beast)
68 macakane // Jul 23, 2008 at 16:06
And more to add - Yes, it is frustrating that we still haven`t got a squad that we wanted, but still, at last we have squad(small yes, but still) which will fight for the club till the last minute of the game, with a character. Signings will come in, MA aint such a fool and he knows, if we are going to stay in Premier League we need quality players at every position, so he will back up Kevin. Check out spurs they are spending madly, but not at the right positions, and still they have big question mark on Dos Santos and even Modric could they cut in premierleague.
I think the first one who could come in will be Bassong -trial defender(if he proved he`s worth) and maybe Warnock(if the rumours are true).

i really dont understand how ppl can say with so much confidence that ashley is goin to spend money, if he is goin to spend why is it taking so long?? and what evidence is there to suggest he will? apparently not willing to match aimars wage demands at a reported 18k, with the money hes spent so far he’ll probly still have change out of the fee’s recieved for rozenhal and emre. tht seems lyk more evidence that he is tight not tht he will spend big.
75 Kevin // Jul 23, 2008 at 16:30
Why the interest in Ashton? I understand the Shearer comparison. I understand he can score goals when he feels up to it. But he can’t stay healthy. He stinks of a FFS signing to me.
And hasn’t Cuellar ruled out a move? If we can get him it’d be fantastic, but certainly not likely.
I joke with Jon Parkin but the lad nearly scored on us in that match last season. He’s a player like Crouch in a strange way - SOOO different from the mould, he might take some people by surprise. He’s obviously deficient in the skills, pace and intelligence departments but he’d be on about 8k/week and I’ll bet he’s a laugh in the dressing room! Okay, maybe I talked myself out of that option…

108 ToonTinka // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:26
Over the moon he has gone and if we got 4 mil (cash) for him then even better.
He never done anywhere near enough for the amount in wages he was payed in the time he was here.. Infact it was disgraceful.
Same bracket as Smith, but at least Smith is never injured, small consolation.
109 dougnufc // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:35
We should get Fernando Forestieri, he was class in the U19 Semi Finals just earlier today, Zamblera was on the bench for the whole game
110 micepie // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:36
Toon Army1 – out of your choice
Warnock/shorey
culler/ferdinand
fernandes/turan
reyes/baptista
I’m not sure about Shorey…against us for example, late last season, he kept miss-passing and I think Ferdinand is dopey. But all of the others are very good! Reyes wouldn’t join us, I don’t think, though, plus I don’t feel we need any more wide players!
That’s just my thoughts though.
If in reality we sign lesser-known players for bargain fees even better!
111 Petey // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:42
I kinda liked emre, thought he was quality on a good day. shame, but he was losing his class and wasnt performing. nothing bad to say about him really.
hope he does well at his new club…
i do want to say this though, replace him with another turkish fella!!! arda turan!!!
we probably have a big name in turkey what with emre being one of turkeys biggest names.
so im sure arda turan will have heard of us.
112 sirjasontoon // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:43
Emre has been woeful if we be honest and the premiership was way to tuff for him and he is a fragile luxury player that is no good to a small squad like ours.
Glad he has gone now lets see the money be spent on senior players in the window.
113 Petey // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:44
oh and mike ashley is pissing me off with this whole “im not gonna tell anybody how much money im spending” by not revealing how much he is selling/buying people for.

Petey - why in hell should he?
115 kenny g // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:48
we dont need anymore widemen and we dont need any more strikers. In an ideal world i love to see…
Cuellar

Inler
D’allesandro
bit of steel and a bit of guile
116 Petey // Jul 23, 2008 at 18:54
erm, u didnt have to involve hell, but, i dunno, it just interests me to know what kind of money we are spending on players, ofcourse he doesnt have to tell us anything, but id just rather he did
117 Patrick // Jul 23, 2008 at 19:02
@Petey
That’s so-called business secret. If we know about it, probably the other rival teams would know what the club is doing from inside out which is absolutely not good. Now different newspapers are already creating more news that we want to see to stir the morale. That’s already enough.
118 harrier // Jul 23, 2008 at 19:02
Petey - apologies if that came off strongly, lot of MA haters here for all the wrong reasons
119 gorskino10 // Jul 23, 2008 at 19:09
but we do know, emre went for 4mill and rest for free, also we signed jonas for 1/2mill and Guthrie for 2mill so in all we spent 4 mill out of my prediction of what he gave KK around 10 mill. Which I thought is poor so now he has 10 mill by selling emre and will buy a striker and defender for a combined fee of the 10mill.

I just hope & pray we have a huge signing in the bag like Diego or Turan & follow it up with Good signings like Shorey & possibly Ryan Nelson from Blackburn or Cueller from Gers! would love to see likes of ashton gomez even gomis here but dont think KK will be given enough £ to buy these players, i’d be happy with Kevin Davies or James beattie for the short term like, not cost a lot & could do a job!

wigaz - kevin davies doesnt even qualify as a footballer. he spends most of the game looking at the opposition defenders deciding which elbow to lead with rather than bothering about where the ball is. he is the epitomy of bolton and their ugly roughball so please just leave him where he is. it sends shudders down the spine just seeing his name mentioned in the same sentence as nufc.

i can understand the given theory as blackburn have apparently sanctioned the friedel move after having a bid accepted for a keeper. throw in that shay used to play there and you might think it had substance.
however i’d suggest that if it was one of our keepers going to blackburn that it’d be harper as he only has one year left on his contract.

Yes Tom Toon I think you hit the nail on the head there.
By the way I saw an earlier blog where you were berating Spyro accusing him of being fernando. I thought the same Name could not be used by another blogger - am I wrong? A couple of nights ago I tried to blog using the name Optimist and made a few bad jokes in an optimistic vein. Ed didn’t let me post them. Can people even use 2 different blog names? @TT (#152), well, how about Vaart? is he a good guy?
@MAG PIE, seriously, Joe Ledley IS a KK-type player and I think he can also be playing defensive roles as well. According to FM, our most “reliable” source, Joe Ledley can play ML, CM, DL, DC. We can buy him and try him in various positions to see if this is true. Remember, DL!!
160 MAG PIE // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:32
The silence on transfers is one thing but why oh why oh why no confirmation of the lad Spear?
161 Patrick // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:35
@MAG PIE, we’d better ask KK for the Spear’s transfer. In fact, in another “reliable” source wikipedia, Spear is already listed as one of our players, and we actually saw some Spear guy saying he’s moving up to the Tyneside.

Warnock (back up for the bull)

169 Patrick // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:46
@sweendog, but I mind N’Zogbia’s included in part of the deal who can act as emergency left back.
I think Guthrie is not backing up Butt… but they gonna just share the playing time in even.
170 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:47
although close call between them .. experience against skill .. but it is the DM position so experience wins IMO
171 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:48
If guthrie shines in pre season why not .. but you have to be sceptical throwing him in the deep end .. ie Man U etc although I’m rating him more and more
172 harrier // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:49
Cause Guthrie is a good box - to - box midfielder that is yet to be appreciated for what his value will be
173 harrier // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:50
sweendog - deep end? Guthrie started against Bayern Munich in the UEFA Cup last year - which they drew 2 - 2
174 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:51
guthrie is good .. but DM is alot to do with intelligence/experience as well .. lets watch the next few games and if he can hold and win balls and do well in most of them games then yes .. he’s ahead of butt .. but at the moment Butt wins by a small margin.
175 MAG PIE // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:51

Guess that’s Ledley out of the frame, at least MC- wise
176 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:52
Man U is alot tougher than Bayern IMO .. also bolton had nothing to lose .. they were underdogs .. whereas you ahve to say we expect alot from our players .. so its usualy better to blood them in slowly.
177 harrier // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:55
sweendog - true but I don’t really think we have much to lose - no one really expects to get anything out of that game anyway
178 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 20:58
keegan expects something I reckon .. Man U lately have been poor starters in the premiership .. so I’m expecting a draw .. all dependant on who we sign and how early we get them in ..

183 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:13
Tainio could be good .. Kaboul is good but too slow .. malbranque ( we could do with him in midfield) .. chimp bonda (heads up his ar*e) but I agree definately too much money for them boys..
184 Tom_Toon // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:16
Kaboul is quick.
Kaboul - Potential to be brilliant at he is quite poor.
Tainio - Good but injury prone.
Malbranque - Good, but a work horse who lacks cutting edge.
Chimbonda - Just an idiot!
185 Kevin // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:16
Alright lads, 25 days until the ManUre match and 41 days until the close of the transfer window. That means, to achieve Kev’s requested 4 transfers, we’ll have to make one every ten days…At the going rate the chances look quite slim. I’m fine with slow news days, but today is yet ANOTHER day closer to the close of the window. Time is seriously ticking, and when senior players like Super Shay are coming out saying “we need some ****ing players” that doesn’t put the old smile on my face…
186 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:21
Tom toon .. not sure how quick kaboul is .. when I watched him he looked cumbersome and slow .. but that could be because his position sense was awefull..
malbranque sometimes looks a bit of a skill spot but 5 mill is tops you would pay for him ..
Most importantly though Scunderland have signed chimbonda .. shocking signing..
187 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:23

189 Mad_Magpie // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:34
If we can make signings like we did with Spiderman out of the blue then we can easily do four more in the next 40 days or so. It would be ideal to have every new face in before the Manure game but that looks unlikely. Last summer we signed two players in literally the closing minutes of the window. I’m still confident after Keegan’s recent comments. Signings drag on nowadays, we’ll just have to be patient but I agree that it is so difficult because with no footy being played, transfer news is all we have.
190 sweendog // Jul 23, 2008 at 21:38
hopfeully we can get a bargain .. but Center back and Attacking Center midfield .. hard to get cheap quality signings there.. especially as the signings we are looking will be 1st teamers and not subs.
