Fenerbahce Have Bid Accepted For Eren Derdiyok

July 25th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 67 Comments

The young 20 year-old Switzerland international striker Eren Derdiyok has been linked with a number of clubs during the summer.

eren-derdiyok.jpg

Eren Derdiyok - only just turned 20

One of them of course has been Newcastle United and we’ve been linked with him ever since he said last April that he would like to join Newcastle United, so he could play alongside the great Michael Owen.

His family is of Turkish origin. and Fenerbahce have always been linked with the player, and there is news today that the Turkish club may have put in a bid for him.

Indeed the Turkish paper Milliyet reports that a transfer fee has in fact been accepted with his Swiss club FC Basel, and now the Luis Aragones managed side are allowed to negotiate personal terms with the player,

Although only 20 years old, Derdiyok has a great record of 14 goals in just 12 games for the Swiss U19 and U21 sides, and he received his first full cap against England at Wembley this February, and scored his first goal for his country in that game.

He also  become the youngest player at the Euro2008 tournament, and looked more than decent in the 3 games he played.

So he seems to fit the profile of players Newcastle would like to sign this summer, since he’s young and more than promising, and seemingly would be only too pleased to join Newcastle.

At 6ft 3in Derdiyok is a powerful striker, who can also play at center-back if needed. He started his career with the Swiss club BSC Old Boys, at the beginning of the 2005/06 season.

He scored 10 goals in just 18 appearances for BSC Old Boys, and FC Basel snapped him up in 2006 at the young age of 18.

The youngster could be a smart buy for the Tyneside club, and we understand Basel wanted £6M for the player some weeks ago, and Newcastle were willing to offer £3M.  However, we think that figure of £6M will surely have come down since then.

If we want the lad, we’ll need to put in a bid for him quickly, or else he’ll be gone, but whether or not Kevin really wants the player -we really have no idea.

However, we do think he would be an excellent acquisition for Newcastle, if we can ge him for around £3M-£4M.

Comments welcome.

theres another player we hav lost. im so frustrated

  • 2 JOeT // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:20

well we need a striker and he seems to fit the bill! Get a move on boys

  • 3 Micky Toon // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:23

Geordiegraham, don’t be so negative, man. We don’t know the club are interested in him, if we aren’t and haven’t put a bid in, then how can we have lost him?
Even if we are bidding, there’s nothing to say he won’t come to NUFC.

  • 4 brownrob // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:23

Well news of this might mean the Toon buck their ideas up and put in an improved bid!

  • 5 HalftimeBovril // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:27

Surely we would put a bid in for this lad. Looks a good prospect and ticks all the right boxes with regards to the new transfer policy. (Age, fee, wages)

Viduka will probably miss the start of the season, and obviously poor Oba could be away for a while which leaves us Owen, Shola, Carrol & dare I say Smith.

Been pretty patient so far but with only 3 weeks to go the recruitment team need to start earning their pay-packets

  • 6 richard // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:30

so striker wise thats 19 year old N’Gog go to liverpool yesterday for £1.5 million and now another possible young tall striker that we could be missing out on!!

  • 7 Spyro // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:31

would be a decent buy for around 5mill, great future prospect and already a good player

  • 8 geordiegraham // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:32

its just annoyin seein players signin for clubs wen we arent. hope we make some progress soon

  • 9 chuck // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:35

Rather have Ameobi, think he is a better player.
You know I just fail to understand why the Toon faithfull suddenly turned against him.
Local lad, played thru injuries and since his post op. has had few oportunities to show what he can do.
He reminded me of Tino same style, think he still has plenty of potential.
Although would`nt be surprised if the lad was`nt depressed by his lack of oportunities plus the negative vibes from people who formerly cheered him.
    Dont get it !

  • 10 MMNUFC // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:36

Wanted Footballers: Player must have own suit, age 20-24 preferred, wages negotiable, fee not excessive. Please send CV plus video clips to D.Wise Newcastle!

Think im going to need councelling..any way keegan keegan keegan!

  • 11 Spyro // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:37

Derdiyok is much better than Ameobi for me, i have never rated Ameobi

  • 12 furrygiblets // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:37

Chuck, either you’re a Mackem or you haven’t a clue what you are talking about.

  • 13 Geordie Nick // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:41

its pretty pathetic how everytime players we are interested look like they r signing for another club, everyone keeps saying ‘we havent lost out, we were probly never interested anyway’ ffs ppl face it, we have a tight arse owner and probly a lot of the players we have been linked with, we probly have been interested in but were too tight to get the deal done

  • 14 maltese geordie // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:43

i dont want to say this but if we dont buy any players relegation battle we end up with and championship we go

  • 15 CRAIGG // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:44

I cant see why we were after him (if we were)

    Owen
    Martins
    Viduka
    Smith (Will stay)
    Ameobi (Will Stay)

Not to mention all the young strikers we have, I dont think we will sign another Striker this year another central midfield player, a Centre half and another left back.

  • 16 Spyro // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:44

Geordie Nick, the thing is, no one knows who we really are interested in apart from the the NUFC staff. You cant just assume your right and others are wrong.

WHEN WILL THIS MADNESS END.another player missed out on someone plz tell me what wise job is..

  • 18 Spyro // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:47

Wise’ job is to bring in youth players i think. Players like Spear etc. I dont think his job has anything to do with the first team so i dont know why people on here give him so much flak.

  • 19 Ross G // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:48

doesnt matter if we r or not interested its still a loss, and if it is cos we wont stump up 6m for the boy then we deserve to lose. I dnt care wot some may say even though Ashley has the right future plan he is ruining our club gradually with this huge reduction, i can see KK leaving or maybe Wise. Its stupid knowone wants to come of the calibre we need and the ones that do we wait to late and lose out or we offer them half the salary they were already on. E.g. Aimar if we cdnt offer him more than £60k then why go in for him. Poor Mike Scruge Ashley needs to take a leaf, if i dare say it Niall Quinns book at least he is backing roy. There idea to get 4 players familar with each-other and the prem is very good business. I think as i said before we shud do that to the financially low Valencia if we can actually spend something. The likes of Albiol, Del Horno, Fernandes, Zigic, and Banega are all available

  • 20 MAG PIE // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:48

I know no-one agrees but I’d rather let Smith play in his proper position as CF not DM or RM and spend whatever funds elsewhere - defence and CM especially.

chuck - you’ve obviously never seen Ameobi play in the flesh. I’d pick Carroll ahead of him every time.

  • 24 CRAIGG // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:54

Chuck i agree some of the stuff thrown at Ameobi is ridiculous, He has made some really good contributions over the years

Scored the goal that got us a UEFA Cup place at Anfield under Bobby, Scored in the majority of goals that got us an Intertoto place under roeder and then 2 goals in the final, Scored in the Nou camp and 2 against Leverkusen in the Champions league and some really vital UEFA Cup goals 2 against Valerenga, Sochaux and Basle, 2 goals against the mackems and has everbody forgot how he played through the pain barrier for 6 months for his hometown club.

  • 25 Angryman the Angry Fan // Jul 25, 2008 at 11:55

    SPYRO
With all due respect mate, If Wise is just here to sign up juniors…..Why on earth has he been made a Director of our football club???

Surely, someone from the achademy has a keen eye!! Otherwise why do we employ them?

The reason why people give Wise so much stick is he hasnt actually got a Major Function at the club, he hasnt done anything major since he came, yet he is a bleeding Director!!

If he hasnt got anything to do with signing first team players WHY was Keegan made to give him a list of requirements?? That came from the Horses mouth matey!!

Perhaps a re-think on your post??

  • 26 Angryman the Angry Fan // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:01

CRAIGG, I have said on this board on many many occasions, there is no room for sentiment in this game!!

Ameobi is simply not good enough!!
He is Lazy, he cant head a ball my 4 year old daughter has a harder shot than him, the ark royal turns quicker than him and my Nanna has more pace than him when going to get her pension!! She can shift!!

He has rattled on for 4-5 years that he can fill Als Boots….what with, sand?? lead??

The lad isnt good enough, Thanks Shola for your obvious love for the club, but time to move out. We have 4 strikers better than you and hopefully a new one on the way!!!!!!!!!!

if not then no offence mate but i wonder what football team you’ve actually been watching, lol.

  • 30 ObaFan2 // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:18

Shola did OK in the past but recently he’s been given opportunities but has not taken them.

£2-4 million for him and no one has snapped him up yet speaks volumes when we have Owen £17 mill and Oba £10? million. Good strikers rarely come cheap.

  • 31 Hadji // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:25

I think Blue Dragon will be better cos your nick comes out in blue.

  • 32 Micky Toon // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:45

Does anyone really know anything about this player. I’m not interested in what he’s like on Football Fantasy Manager or what his wiki page says. Has anyone actually seen him play on a regular basis? If not then why are you so gutted about not signing him. He might be the biggest load of rubbish since Paul Stimpson.

  • 33 derekm // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:52

Ashley bought NUFC when it was in fact in serious danger of collapse due to freddie shepherd - he has saved the club with around 80 million of his own money. Surely he is right to be careful when in the short time he has been involved with the club he has seen just how much money had been wasted on very average players, allardyce’s back room cronies and ridiculous wages? If Arsenal can have relative success with a 62000 stadium and a wage cap of £80,000, a dedicated youth recruitment policy ( how many of arsenal’s now top stars have come through their ranks ) then their model must make more sense than what has transpired in the past.

  • 34 S Mogg // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:52

Because I havent joined the crowd beying for Ameobi`s head I must be a know nothing, must be a mackem etc. Thanks !
If you care to read some of the above, not every one disagrees with me.
Look , whats stated by fans in this blog are opinions about both players, management and clubs, thats what its about.
Not personal insults , why ? cause its juvenile and boreing.

  • 36 Micky Toon // Jul 25, 2008 at 12:59

S Mogg. Ha ha. You’re right, I got the name wrong Of course I meant to say Alex Mathie. ;-)

    PS.

I really thought there was a bag of crap who player for us in the late 90’s called Paul Stimpson, but the only reference I can find of a Stimpson playing for NUFC was Mark Stimpson.

What do you expect if you visit blog a site that is frequented in the main by half witted delinquents who have nothing better to do than to hang on to every rumour that Ed and the rest of the internet “presents” them.
Its funny as, watching these people whipping themselves into a frenzy over players we have absolutely no chance of signing.

  • 38 Taiwantoon // Jul 25, 2008 at 13:07

Why not consider his team mate Marco Streller? taller, cheaper and better goal scoring record.

  • 39 HeronMag // Jul 25, 2008 at 13:10

Before anyone starts panicking about this there is no solid info we are even after Derdiyok.

The two players we have signed were a complete surprise to me. Guthrie was only linked to us a week or so before he signed.

If KK comes out and says he’s gutted we missed out then I’ll start worrying but until I know we’ve definitely been after him (as in the Woodgate and Modric cases) I’m not going to be too fussed.

  • 40 HeronMag // Jul 25, 2008 at 13:11

    Oh - Ameobi is pants.

    Good servant - bad player

  • 41 Graham // Jul 25, 2008 at 13:13

Derekm - well said. After ploughing 1/8th of his total income into the club in a matter of months, Ashley is doing the right thing for the long term.

As for Derdiyok, if Keegan is interested in him then we will only find out if and when he signs - as it should be!

  • 42 Micky Toon // Jul 25, 2008 at 13:29

Walter - If you don’t like the place, you know where the door is, don’t let it hit you on the arse on the way out.

  • 51 GSfan // Jul 25, 2008 at 16:38

    Hey lads,

I think this piece of news is pure rubbish. It didn’t appear on any other news site (and I don’t even bother checking Milliyet every day cuz they love putting up crap news).

Fenerbahce would never get him anyways. He’s not good enough for them. I love the guy but I doubt he would be happy to sit in the Fenerbahce bench all the time while competing against the likes of Guiza, Semih and Kezman (Kezman being a substitute now). And they don’t dump such cash on substitutes so I’m seeing this piece of news as pure rubbish and I rly doubt Fener even wants him now. They’re currently making plans on splashing the cash on a DM and are busy with Xabi Alonso and Senna atm.

  • 52 amir7 // Jul 25, 2008 at 16:59

thanks for the input gsfan, any news on arda? havent heard a thing in weeks

  • 53 GSfan // Jul 25, 2008 at 17:04

Nothing on Arda, no. Barely any news on GS these days since they’ve been on their training camp in Germany =/

  • 54 GSfan // Jul 25, 2008 at 17:23

    Very recent update just now,

Hmm, according to some news agencies just now, some representatives from PSG arrived in Istanbul today and had talks with Fenerbahce regarding Kezman’s situation. A deal might happen any time now they say.

What this means is they might need another forward IF (a big IF) Kezman is sold. He earns the highest wages atm and a nice fee would make it very profitable for Fener.

Since they want to splash the cash on a DM and don’t have any spots for foreigners atm, offloading Kezman would open up a space for that and they would then have to get someone who’s a non-foreigner to fill in the spot for a decent substitute for Semih and Guiza. Eren might not be a bad choice for that spot if Kezman does get sold. The question is, would Eren be willing to be a backup player?

  • 55 Obafan // Jul 25, 2008 at 17:33

I can’t follow this anymore. All the players linked with our club and it seems like the club isn’t doing a thing. They will be working hard, but because of their lack of information to their fans we don’t know what is going on (who we failed to sign, who we will try to get in, …) and that makes us worrying (it does to me tho’ :-) ).

One thing I know for sure is:
OUR SQUAD IS TOO THIN SO WE NEED PLAYERS.
Who will play upfront at Old Trafford.
Owen - Smith (KK rates him) Why?
    Viduka: not fit
Oba: poor lad has other problems on his mind. And he needs to take his time no matter how long it takes.
    Carroll: not good enough
Ameobi: will he still be here?

  • 56 Leo // Jul 25, 2008 at 17:45

  • 62 Nenad The Serbian Mag // Jul 25, 2008 at 20:34

Why spend more money on strikers?
We already have Owen, Martins, Viduka, Caroll, Smith…

If that lot can’t manage to score some goals, that Turkish/Swiss lad won’t do better either…

We need some solid midfielders, a la Stephen Appiah or someone like that…

  • 63 simon P // Jul 26, 2008 at 1:07

we WILL get relegated if there is not a substantial investment in the team.

    FACT

  • 64 Phil // Jul 26, 2008 at 4:56

Smith, Caroll and Ameobi are all not good enough for the premiership. At the very best they can be 4th/5th choice emergency back-up.

viduka isn’t going to play every game this year, oba isn’t going to be there at the start so we do need another striker and this lad looks the part. he is young and wouldn’t want high wages.

i imagine we aren’t going in for him because keegan knows he doesn’t have a lot to spend and knows that we are more desparate in defence and centre mid.

if that’s the case then i guess it is going to be another shit season as a newcastle fan.

  • 65 UTD111 // Jul 26, 2008 at 7:07

Without wishing to state the bleeding obvious - its defenders we need!!!

  • 66 john marshall // Jul 26, 2008 at 7:35

regarding ameobi if you want someone to play offside and foul and be dead slow then ameobi is your man.at hartlepool last week even my wife commented on how slow he was.yes he has a few tricks but that is not enough.I think the older he gets the worse he is.

  • 67 Shiftythemag // Jul 26, 2008 at 13:04

Dont know why we would want him anyway he`s in the same mould as carroll who we dont have to pay 6m for and we still have ameobi who has scored goals in the prem and moreso europe when he`s been fit. Rather have a quality centre mid who can beat a man and thread a ball and cover for the full backs. Dont think we even need a centre half
