It looks like Sam Allardyce has not yet given up his quest to get David Beckham to Newcastle. Sam has been talking about Beckham today in his latest column for Zoo – let’s take a look at what he said.
David Beckham
This what Sam had to say about Beckham today:
“I’ve always thought he (Beckham) could do a job in the Premiership, if he becomes available I would gladly take him on loan at Newcastle,” “That’s something that can only be discussed at a later date, but if he carries on the way he is going on, there will be plenty of people who want to acquire his services.
“Henrik Larsson (who spent three months on loan at Manchester United last season) proved you can make an impact by coming on a short-term loan to the Premiership. David could definitely make a big impression.
“His season in America will be over in November, so technically he might be able to come and play in Europe then, but he’ll need a good break first. He’s only having a couple of weeks holiday before he goes to LA Galaxy this summer, so by November he’ll have to have another break.
“Then it will be between LA Galaxy and him to decide whether he (can) come back here on loan, or whether he has too many off-field commitments.”
The MLS is a poor league right now – although David has the opportunity to draw better players to the league – given that he will be playing in it. Beckham will also be played in center midfield – to use his skill to maximum advantage for the Galaxy. The Galaxy are second bottom of the Western standings right now with only two wins in their first nine games. It’s going to be interesting to see how Beckham plays in the MLS – it will be like watching a 15 year old play against 11 year olds – but maybe that’s too harsh on the league. Here are the Western standings as of today:
TEAM GP W L T PTS FC Dallas 14 7 6 1 22 Chivas USA 10 5 3 2 17 Houston 11 5 5 1 16 Colorado 12 4 5 3 15 Los Angeles 9 2 4 3 9 Real Salt Lake 11 0 5 6 6 Â
Sam went on:
“When David decided to go to America, it looked like he had no future with either Real Madrid or England,”
“But David has always known he could still play at the top level. Only other people questioned that – Steve (McClaren, the England coach) decided to move on with England and (Real boss Fabio) Capello thought he was surplus to requirements at Madrid.”
Well that’s all changed now after Beckham’s heroics for England and Real Madrid. Real wanted to keep him and it just showed the stupidity of new England boss Steve McClaren to drop him from the side in the first place. For McClaren to come back and say he expected Beckham would come back like he did – and that’s why Steve had dropped David in the first place – is more than comical – it’s a preposterous comment from the England manager. He didn’t have a clue that David would react like he has done.
Can we get Beckham to Newcastle?
Got to be honest and say we just can’t see Posh shopping on Northumberland Street – just cannot see it – but stranger things have happened.

Comment #4Given Beckham’s friendship with Tom Cruise, I’m not sure whether I’d feel comfortable with Mr Scientology trying to turn my beloved Mags into ‘glaze-eyed, brainwashed, fruit loops’.
Although, I doubt whether the diminutive movie star would bother with a visit to the North-East…
…I have to admit concern though for Beckham and his family. They aren’t exactly blessed with the required reserves of intellect to fight off a sustained attempt to convert the lot of them. I’ve got a lot of respect for ‘Sir’ David and it pains me to see him and his brood in the claws of that particular band of freaks.

Comment #5Just come back from Boston, went along to a New England Raiders game against Real Salt Lake with the so called “wonder kid” Feddy Adu. He was shockingly bad.
Apart from that, the game was quite fast paced and it wasn’t just hit and hope stuff. After watching that you can tell that Beckham will walk it there, it just depends if they have any smart players to get on the end of his cross balls

Comment #7Toon Exile – but it cannot be good for Beckham to be playing in that standard – he’s just far too goos – he’ll get too used to it .. and probably be lost when he turns out for England.

Comment #8Jozy Altidore has replaced Freddy Adu as the American 17 year old to watch. Hes bigger, faster, and has a pretty decent strike. Plus Freddy is on a rubbish team while Jozy gets to play next to Juan Pablo Angel certainly the best player pre-Beckham. Jozy is the future for America not Freddy and will make a bigger splash in Europe.

Comment #9Ed, his class is permanent. There aren’t many players that have kept up such high standards while being benched and sidelined at Real Madrid and come out of that time being begged to stay.
He’ll lose it only if his ankles give in through all the diabolical tackling in the MLS. And age. Oh and the amount of fat in the food out there
