Shola Ameobi and Celestine Babayaro – remember him – return to action tonight after being named in the Newcastle United Reserve side to play Liverpool Reserves at Warrington Wolves’ Halliwell Stadium, with a kick-off at 7 pm.
The Nigerian left-back hasn’t played for Newcastle since early March and has had a groin strain for much of that time. Maybe we should have had Celestine visit Dr Ulrike Muschaweck, who has fixed Owen and Shearer of their groin problems in the past.
Celestine Babayaro – hasn’t played for Newcastle since early March with groin strain
It will be good to see Ameobi back again since another groin injury has kept him on the sidelines since the Arsenal game, although he was an unused sub on Monday evening. In fact if Ameobi comes through OK tonight we would expect him to be on the bench again on Saturday at Reading. We would expect him to play no more than 45 minutes tonight.
Coach Lee Clark has named the following side for tonight:
Fraser Forster, Mark Bertram, Celestine Babayaro, Mark Doninger, David Edgar, Callum Morris, Kazenga LuaLua, Matty Pattison, Shola Ameobi, Jonny Godsmark, James Troisi.
Subs: James Marwood, Alex Patterson, Alex Francis, Darren Lough, Frank Wiafe Danquah.
Turns out the game will be shown live on television. The game is to be shown on Setanta Sports for the game. Sky customers on channel 448 and Virgin Media customers through channel number 544 will be able to see six hours’ worth of Liverpool FC TV free and unencrypted, from 6pm to midnight tonight.
Here’s the Reserve team league as of 17th October 2007, and a Newcastle win can see us move up the table. It’s interesting to note poor Bolton Wanderers are bottom of this league – they used to do really well under Big Sam, who is very keen on his reserve sides.

Comment #4I agree guys that both these are good players and they deserve a chance, but we still need 2 quality players in these positions, our aim is the top 6 and if injuries do happen to Enrique n Milner then i dont think we have the quality left to finish there, i especially think we need to spend big on a right sided midfielder.

Comment #7Id like to see Troisi and Edgar get a chjance instea dof investing in a new lb and new rm.
If we do invest expect to see Darijo Srna and Pavel Mares for the Rm and LB positions respectively.

Comment #9id like to see ameobi score a few , might help push he price tag up enough to help wih the berbatov transfer 😀
poor shola , i feel for the lad but he’s had his chances and hasnt taken them .
far to old now tobe a ‘promising’ young player .
even the games he’s started this seaon he didnt do what was aksed of him , all sam expected was for shola to go out and fight for balls to give to owen , dont think owen seen much of the ball that game

Comment #13Hes 25, would be a quality buy, hes fast, a good crosser and handy with free kicks. He also can play RB which could be handy with Beye being involved in african nations.

Comment #15seriously tom toon if you are right with this, because you have been soo persistant with this link, i will send you a cake, in the post, mind it will probly take a week to get to you in portugal. nevermind
its true if we loose either milner or jose enrique we might be in a bit of trouble
but nzogbia showed he can play well there
and then emre could play left wing
milner could have geremi play on the right which he has done
then duff coming back will see further re-inforcements
we do however need a new left back right back and right wing, maybe a ‘creative midfielder’ haha
