The Kieron Dyer situation is in limbo right now with West Ham furious, Newcastle unhappy and Dyer upset at the events of last Friday evening when Newcastle pulled out at the last moment and demanded another £2M on top of the initial asking price of £6M for Kieron.
But we still think the deal will be done and probably this week after some compromise solution is reached where both sides can save face.
Let’s look at this strange situation and how it can easily be resolved.Â
Kieron Dyer – what is going on?
Sam Allardyce has defended Newcastle’s decision to block Kieron Dyer’s move to West Ham. Dyer had been on the point of moving to Upton Park after the clubs seemingly agreed a fee of £5M up-front plus a further £1million depending on appearances.
But Kieron Dyer could still join West Ham – and we think he will (and this week), even though Newcastle have said they are not budging from their asking price of £8M for the England midfielder. The Hammers also say they will not budge from their £6M offer for Kieron Dyer – but the England midfielder’s transfer could be revived when Newcastle and West Ham work out a suitable compromise deal in which each can save face. This shouldn’t be too difficult.
This is what West Ham Chairman Eggert Magnusson told the Guardian today on the situation:
“It was very unexpected,” “He’d [Dyer] had a medical and we thought we had agreed everything.”
“But we then just got a message from the owner that he wanted a higher price.”
“This is something I have never experienced before in football, because they had already given us permission to speak to the player. So of course I was very disappointed.”
Nothing really new in Magnussons statement as it almost replicates what Manager Curbishley has said. Usually in these stand-off situations some time has to pass so the two parties can calm down after feathers have been ruffled. Just look at the Tevez situation – which was a lot worse than this one.
The Hammers are still reportedly keen to sign Dyer. We propose a compromise deal of £7M paid up front. That saves face for both clubs – Newcastle gets a little bit extra and a good deal after all they have done for Dyer to get him fit. West Ham get their player for £1M more, which will hardly ripple the bank account funding West Ham deals this summer – and it will be a good deal for West Ham .
We hope Newcastle Chairman Chris Mort, Manager Allardyce – and West Ham Chairman Eggert Magnusson and Manager Curbishley are reading this – which is probably very unlikely. Why don’t we do the deal before the end of the week – how about Thursday?
😀

Comment #3Anyone read anything about Shola saying he’ll push for a place this season?
I think Shola can learn alot from Viduka. Shola can be a trong force in the PL, he just needs to improve his finishing and hold up play, thats all, then we’ve got a top player. Who better to learn off??? Mark Viduka, who is a master at hold up with the ball at his feet and playing with his back to goal. Viduka won’t be able to play every game, leaving Shola with a good 20 odd games this season. He’s learnt alot from Shearer, but his style was different, I think Viduka is similar in many ways to Shola. We’re going to see a glavanised Shola and I can’t wait for BSA to get the best out of him.
We’re all rooting for you Shola (even though the “NewcastleUnited-Mad” website might not be)!

Comment #5Suprisingly The Guardian website is great for football stories, especially ‘the fiver’ email they send out each day. Hopefully they will stop referring to us as Newcastle Comedy Club now though!

Comment #6I dont like how the Newcastle fans are treating Kieron Dyer, he has given us 8 years of his life, and when hes been playing hes give us something to cheer about, beside that how would all us gordie fans feel if we were opposite ends of the country to our family give him a heroes exit not a thugs.

After 8 years at the club, he manged to get that run, and boy were we disappointed. he scored a few goals but you would have thought being paid over 80,000 pound a week to watch the games in ur sitting room, that he would show some more passion justify the praise he got numbers of years ago..but no..he merely mocked us by wanting to leave at such a crusial time, i mean why cant his family move up north..every other foreign player does that and if has coped for 8 years surely he can see out the remainder of his current contract. the injury prone player is nothing more than a selfish yob that merely looks out for himself before others. i had his name put on the back my shirt, he was in the past my favourite player and i always thought that he showed glimpses of being in the all time greatest nufc team. But seeing him last season, his selfish play, although making some good runs, his touch in the final third was embarrassing, he quotes himslef as being an attacking right sided player with the ablity to play upfront, his stats diasagree. he has one fo the worst shot accuracy figures in the team and his crossing and pass completion are laughable!
I say sell him for the 6 million being given and get the the guy out of the Newcaslte. We dont need him, we dont like him, and we defintaly dont appreciate paying 40 quid a ticket to see crap like him!!

Comment #9Kash – Shola has been a very good player for quite a while now, it’s just that everyone remembers the Shola that missed an open goal from 2 yards on his debut (at least I do!). Last season, before he was out for quite a while, he scored 6 goals in something like 11 games. I feel sorry for the lad now as we have so many good strikers. I just hope he sticks around long enough to be the natural successor to Viduka when he eventually hangs up his boots.

Comment #10Kash you really cant be serious about Shola. If he couldnt learn from Shearer in the 10 years!!! he was at the club with him then you cant be expecting him to realise his ‘potential’ just because we signed Viduka. I think its time to admit that the potential has just never been there for Shola – Bobby and Roeder both had very good track records working with young players. Shola is too old and has had his chance, he belongs in the Championship.

Comment #11I thought it was to do with a combination of Them alledgedly talking to Dyer before being given permission and Dyer wanting a loyalty payment as in did not officialy hand in a transfer request. Rumoured to be £2 million.
Now I take these murmering with a pinch of salt but it does make sense you cant let teams think they can get away with tapping up your players and turning there heads.
Maybe had something to do with his terrible form at the end of season as he could of been engineering a move?
I must stop watching the X-Files lol.

Comment #12kash – Sholas ok but can’t see him ever being a consistent 20 goals a season striker – lets face it if he couldn’t learn about hold up play and finishing from Shearer then he’s unlikley to learn from Viduka. Maybe BSA can give him the extra edge that he has so far failed to show, everyone else seems to have been given a massive lift by the BSA team and even Carr is looking impressive!!

Comment #14@Steve – I agree he may not be 20 goals a season, but thats what Owen/Martins are there to do. Shola is the big man, and if he contributes 10 a season plus maybe 10-15 assists, then I would count that as a very productive season. Again, he’s a squad player who can make a difference, and surprisingly (not to Toon fans) he has lots of experience. I’m biased because I played football against him at school and he used to frequent the same snooker club, but he’s a fine example of an ethnic geordie doing well for himself.

Comment #15if Dyer doesnt go this week theirs till 3 weeks for him to get punted to some other team.
I like the way Magnusson says:
‘this has never happened to me before in football’ –
i understand when Curbs says this but Eggert has only been in football for 1 season! most things that happen on a day to day basis probably havent happened to him before… nugget.
i tihnk the fact players like Chopra are being sold for 5Million just illustrates that for us to sell dyer at that price is just silly, look at Curtis Davies… how can West Ham want to pay £8million for a defender whos hardly played in the prem and is under 21… and we have a player who has played in the prem for 9+ seasons and is damn good when fit and they dont want to budge over £6mil.
bloody hammers.

Comment #16There seems to be no end to the tragic saga of KD. After 8 years of being a “talented” and “promising” player for NU, but never showing a consistent quality for any length of time, – now this. Admittedly he has been injured a lot but … I hope my fellow Icelanders at WH will offload us.
I recently found this site and I’m very pleased. A “matter of fact” attitude, well written and well informed source.

Comment #17I cant believe that after the impovements weve made in the striking department anyone can actually seriously put forward the idea that Shola should be anywhere near our first team. How many times can someone put in awful performances and still get their chance to ‘realise their potential’ just because they are a geordie, theres loads of geordies in newcastle but that doesnt give them all a chance to play for newcastle. Out of him and Chopra I would have kept Chopra, at least he had the mentality to play flat out every minute he was on the pitch.

Comment #20ED, you should think about doing an article on our future star Krul.
http://www.nufc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10278~1086066,00.html
he again sounds like a model proffesional, and as i live in scotland when Falkirk come and play Aberdeen im tempted to go in my Toon strip to show him some support. I really hope we can hold onto him long enough to supersede Given.
On a transfer note… i found this online…. i have no idea how credible it is but a few football rumour mills are reporting this:
http://talkingsoccer.blogspot.com/2007/08/rumour-chelsea-and-newcastle-chase-15m.html
bascially they are reporting that Deco has been told he can go… and Chelski & The Toon have been told by Barca you can have him for £15mil.
IF their is any shred of truth in this would you like to see Deco join us for 15mil??? i mean, we already have heaps of CM’s but he would give us something we dont have…. im 50/50 on this one, ill be happy if we sign him… but if not i wont be suicidal.

What do you think?
on another forum the general opinion was that 5/6th would be taken by the best strikeforce out of the usually assumed top 4. thats gotta be us and spurs.
Its really hard to choose between the two of us though: Owen is probably just better than Bent, martins and Berbatov both had great seasons last year scoring almost identically, Viduka and Keane are pretty similar and Smith and Defoe are both very talented on outskirts of England team who havent manged to score regularly. What do you reckon?

Comment #28Tom Cairns – interesting read. The difference might be that Martin Jol needs to push on and actually achieve something notable his year and is therefore under more pressure. We need to pull the new team together and see what kind of a force we will be – so maybe less pressure in that respect. Would be great if we pipped them.

Comment #29Ethnic origin like me, but born and bred/just bred in the city of Toon! LIKE ME!
@Andy C – You’re an idiot!
@Dinko – I thought we should have kept Chopra, he still could’ve played a part for Newcastle. But Roeder is an idiot, and we lost him! OK so my figures were slightly inflated, so lets say 5 goals and 8 assists. Stevie G only managed 7 goals and 8 assists last season!

Comment #31Kash- I know that you guys from Newcastle like players from your city and that is ok with me. Yes Ameobi would die for Newcastle but he simply isn’t good enough to be in first team.We have Martins (our best scorer last season),Owen(first choise in England national team),Smith(new signing and Sam certain didn’t sign him to seat on the bench, and he shows good caracter in his first couple of days there, and very fit),Viduka(much better than Ameobi, and for sure he will play much more games than Ameobi) Luque(Yes he was shit last year but he is still better player than Ameobi),and most important Caroll (Who is already very good player and he will be star player for newcastle,I think, and playing Ameobi intead Caroll would be mistake). That is my opinion and if Ameobi scores 5 goals this season that means Martins will score unleast 30 and that is ok with me 🙂

Comment #32I think Shola should be sold in order to make more space for Luque and Viduka and possibly Carroll.I think that we can get around 6mill pounds for him considering how much Sheffield Utd paid for Beattie…i believe 4,5 mill. There are so many strikers at the moment in the team and its really unnecessary to keep him. With the money from him and if we add lets say 3 more millionwe could get 2 more players playing RB and CB.I wonder why they never asked for Belletti.
Andy C
Aug 7, 2007 at 4:23 PM
Comment #33So Kash, it would seem that everyone who agrees with me is also an idiot?
If people like you didnt give Ameobi so much undeserved praise then maybe he’d have the will to actually push himself to achieve something. And as for Roeder, yeah he didnt do the job but bringing on the youngsters was something he was good at and Ameobi couldnt improve under him or Bobby.
If you honestly think that players like Shola will take us anywhere apart from down then you obviously know very little about the game. I suppose Matty Pattinson and Huntington should also be given places in the team because they came through the ranks. Its a good job Allardyce doesnt agree with you and has bought 2 more strikers to play ahead of Ameobi.

Comment #39Guys read this:
Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce says he’s treating Kieron Dyer with kid gloves after his move to West Ham collapsed last week.
Allardyce told the Evening Chronicle yesterday: “Kieron trained with us yesterday and really he needs his own space, and that’s what we will give him.
“He needs to collect his own thoughts and we will have to wait and see what develops.
“He was a bit down in the dumps, but you don’t always get what you want out of life and you just have to get on with it.
“As far as his move to West Ham is concerned, it is all in their hands.”
BOO – FRICKN – HOO, your payed 80K a week, get over it lad! i cant wait to see the back of this waste of space, i used to respect him as a footballer as he does have skill but after this whole debacle i just cant stand the boy, youd think that he was a lowly paid skivvy the way he was acting. If he wanted to move so much he would cough up the windfall himself, or take a huge wage decrease to the Hammers could spend more.
GIVE ME A BREAK KIERON.
