Lucas Jutkiewicz scored for Everton Reserves in injury time and secured a home point for Everton reserves against Newcastle United Reserves last night.
Everton looked to have missed out on all their chances as time was running out. Andy Holden’s side had put up with everything the visiting Geordies threw at them and even had the better of the goalmouth action in the first half.
Earlier, Newcastle goalkeeper, Fraser Forster had saved well from Brazilian Anderson de Silva’s rising 56th minute shot and also from a close-range effort from Bjarni Vidarsson.
Shola Ameobi got on the goals trail with a 64th minute penalty, after James Troisi had been fouled by Toffees left-back Patrick Boyle.
United defended really well but finally gave way in injury time, when Jutkiewicz equalized. Just a couple of minutes after Ameobi’s goal, Republic of Ireland under-21 international Aidan Downes beat Forster but his shot came back off the crossbar.
With just a couple of minutes to go Vidarsson had a great chance to equalize, but amazingly pulled his shot wide from just 6 yards out. Everton deserved their equalizer, even though it was late. Newcastle first teamers Edgar, Ameobi and Pattison played the full 90 minutes for Newcastle. Adam Sadler was in charge of the Newcastle team, following the departure of Lee Clark to Norwich City late last week.
