Sam talked to www.nufc.co.uk a couple of days ago on his two new signings Abdoulaye Faye and Habib Beye, which were brought to Newcastle just before the transfer deadline passed on 31st August.
Sam knows Faye very well from his time at Bolton and he has been after Habib Beye for a while, having tried to sign him for Bolton last January from Marseilles.
We think Beye will start at right back against Derby on Monday night – and go on to make that position his own at the club.
Habib Beye – shown in training – we expect him to start against Derby County
Sam told www.nufc.co.uk:
“Abdoulaye Faye was training on his own at Bolton while the transfer dragged on, but he has huge experience in the Premier League,”
“Habib meanwhile is a magnificent specimen of a footballer and I’d have no problem about using either player.â€
Don’t you get the impression, from Sam’s comment, that he thinks Beye is a special player 😀
Sam went on:
“They will both be in the squad and have a chance of being involved because we still have long-term injuries which is testing the squad to the full.â€
“That’s why it was crucial to add Habib and Abdoulaye when we did.”
Jose Enrique and Mark Viduka will both face late fitness tests because of their respective hamstring injuries – but we don’t think Viduka will be fit enough for tomorrow night.
Sam added:
“Jose has a slight hamstring problem but we’ll have to wait and see how he is. “
“Mark Viduka is still a little way off because he hasn’t trained with the rest of the lads yet and we’ll have to wait until Monday probably before deciding if he plays.”
We weren’t aware Enrique was injured at all since it’s not on PhysioRoom.Com but perhaps it’s just a niggle. We’d really like to see Jose come into the team soon so it can free up Charles N’Zogbia to add more creativity up front.
There’s no doubt these are two good experienced signings by Sam and we think Beye will become a Newcastle regular at right back with Faye having to fight to earn a starting spot somewhere in the team.

Comment #1Really want to see all the new players in action! But not if they are going to flop if they are pushed into playing too early…

Comment #2seems there are still plenty of decisions to make for mondays game then…
– does owen start or martins
– does smith or shola play the target man role if viduka isnt fit
– do we play 442 or 433
– who comes in at cm with butt and geremi if we play 433 and smith plays cf and zog plays lb (faye?)
i hope we play 442 as derby are there for the taking imo, but if zog plays lb we will have pretty much the same problems we have had so far with 433 and a lack of creativity further up the pitch.

Comment #3i think we will play 433 as that gives sam a reason to leave(rest) owen on the bench and play martins with shola upfront and smith in cm and zog at lb.

Comment #4Prediction: 0-2 (2 goals from Oba, I hope for him because difficult times may come for him like I read in the comments of BSA yesterday).

Comment #9With all the talk about Taylor, I wouldnt be surprised to see Taylor slip into the LB position just to get him a start, while also it allows Cacapa and Rozehnal to continue their good form at the centre of defence and Beye to slip into RB.
Also, we can then get Zoggy into the midfield, either as a winger or in a central 3 which will give us some more creativity (something that we have been lacking in midfield).
