Joey Barton made a welcome return to the Newcastle team in the second half on Monday night and got just a great reception from the Newcastle fans.
The Geordie public has been impressed with the Liverpool born player’s great attitude since he arrived as Sam Allardyce’s very first signing at Newcastle for a steal at £5.8M.
The fans will be further impressed with the interview he just finished this afternoon with Sky Sports.
Joey Barton – displaying positive attitude at Newcastle – a future captain for Big Sam?
Joey comes across as almost the perfect squad player, even though most fans think he can add significantly to Newcastle’s drive and creativity in midfield. And let’s be clear here – Joey is one great player in the making. Saturday’s trip to Reading is next on the agenda for the Newcastle juggernaut, and Barton freely admits he would rather see the team get all 3 points on offer, than his own personal ambitions of playing.
Joey told Sky Sports News this afternoon:
“Obviously, it’s a winning side and it’s going to be tough to get into a winning side.â€
“I think it’s important that we keep winning. It’s not about Joey Barton, it’s about Newcastle United Football Club, and if I have to bide my time for four, five, six games and the team is winning, then so be it.â€
“I won’t be frustrated, I’ll sit there and wait for the opportunity, and if the team goes unbeaten all season, then I’ll be very unlucky! I’ll just have to take it on the chin.â€
“Football these days is a squad game and I’m part of a squad here.â€
“It’s very important for me to be part of a successful squad and if that means me sitting on the bench when the team’s winning, then so be it.”
Is it just us – or is it really just great to hear how positive these Newcastle players are this season. It’s sometimes difficult to give too much praise out in these reports – but credit where credit is due – and these interviews come across so positively for both the players and Newcastle United. A welcome change from not so long ago.
All you hear from the lads these days is how important the squad is. We heard the same coming from both Oba Martins and James Milner, when they were immediately interviewed after the game on Monday night. Big Sam has certainly got the players thinking positively and about the important things in football – and so quickly too.
Even though James and Oba both scored excellent goals against Tottenham, all they were talking about was the win, and how important that was for the squad and the fans too. Well, we think it’s just music to the ears of every Newcastle fan – and we just love it – so there.
Keep it going lads!
Comments always welcome.

Comment #3I agree Ed; there is something in the way in which people pull together for Sam. Let’s face it, Bolton unravelled the moment he went. They didn’t have very good players but spirit and a system that played to their strengths made them over-achievers. If OUR squad over-achieves, however, we will be very happy Toonsters, won’t we?

Comment #20Joey is actually quite an intelligent and articulate bloke, I believe he is university educated I’ve seen him on chat shows and can hold his own in a debate. Don’t think he would need a publicist.
