News today mainly concentrates on our game yesterday at Bolton when we got off to a great start in the league.
A 3-1 win was a good result after the team were close to phenomenal in the first half. While the second half was a bit nervy at times they hung on well to register all 3 points.with a clean sheet would be the perfect result to Sam’s career at Newcastle.
This is the last day of the fantastic effort by the determined and courageous Newcastle United supporter – Mark Allison. He completes his John O’Groats to Lands End run today with the final 22 miles and he is right on schedule. It would be great if you can donate to the St. Benedict’s Hospice – who Mark’s effort is supporting. He’s now close to £22,000 in contributions.
A fantastic effort by Mark which deserves great support.
An update on a charity run by Mark Allison from John O’ Groats to Land’s End on behalf of St. Benedict’s Hospice. Mark had this new message on his web-site this morning.
“Today was all about a game plan.”
“I dug in to the numerous hills for 22 miles and then let the new found power in my legs bring me to the finish in style.”
“And what a devastating finish it was with a maximum pace of 05:30 minutes per mile.”
“I’ll not even mention the head wind that was blowing in my face throughout today.”
“This is exactly how I always envisaged the run ending; with style and with pace.”
Mark finishes today with a final run of 22 miles to end up at Land’s End. Here’s Mark’s web sitewhere he has a daily log and all kinds of good information about his fabulous effort. If you can contribute to Mark’s efforts please do so at this just giving site
Mark Allison – only 22 miles left to the finish today – he’s done fantastically well – please see if you can contribute and support Mark’s heroic and fantastic efforts for charity
Here’s our full time report of yesterday’s game against Bolton yesterday. It’s always scary a little at the beginning of a season but after 27 minutes yesterday everything seemed golden as Newcastle tore into Bolton and were 3-0 up. Things settled down after that but a very good and professional win by the lads. This is an understatement – but this augers well for the future. Our goal has to be to qualify for Europe next season and end as high up the league as we can – and dare I say it – win a cup!
Charles N’Zogbia – performance yesterday was first class – he’s back to his very best under Big Sam
Good words from Sam this morning about what he still has left to do at Newcastle to reform his squad and it’s a lot. He reckons he is only about 40% complete – but doesn’t mention a time-frame. He does indicate that he needs to keep winning early in the season so he buys himself some time to ensure the changes he wants are made. He’s right because there’s always pressure on a Newcastle manager during a losing streak – pressure on any manager actually. Sam has done just great so far – he seems perfect for the job at Newcastle.
Sam Allardyce – not even half way done with his changes to the Newcastle squad
It’s a perfect time for us to write a story on why we think Sam is almost the perfect manager for Newcastle. We list several reasons and we’re sure you’ll agree with most of them. Sam big personality (and ego) are the main reasons he will not be submerged by the immensity of the job. We think the opposite will happen if he can get a winning streak going – especially early in the season. The way the boys were motivated from the kick off yesterday was a joy to watch. Now we need to beat Aston Villa next Saturday night and ensure our crowd are the 12th man – cheering the team home to victory.
Sam – almost the perfect manager for Newcastle – and an exciting first game for the team under Big Sam
Following yesterday’s win at Bolton we think now id the time to ensure we have a full squad before the end of August. If Dyer and Luque (and Solano?) are to move on then let’s get on with it – but let’s ensure we bring in the necessary players to replace them in the squad. Because of the new mentality with the squad (positive, upbeat, confident) we think it’s time to move Dyer out – hopefully to West Ham. Since it looks like Drago is probably not coming we need at least two more defenders into the club including a right back.
Nobby Solano – we hope the news that Nobby wants away is not true – and think he could play in the right-back position rather than start on the bench
Kieron Dyer – not true that he failed his medical at West Ham
Finally here’s some funny football quotes – to lighten up the day 😀
“Serie A is wonderful. Serie B is depressing. And you have to be on drugs to watch Serie C.” – Fabio Capello
“He covers every blade of grass out there, but that’s only because his first touch is so crap.†– Dave Jones on Carlton Palmer.
“I am grateful to my father for all the coaching he did not give me.” – Hungary’s great Ferenc Puskas

Yep a brilliant result and especially away from home. But please dont get to confident, just look at the statistics, we only had 37% of the ball, corners freekicks etc very very similar, but only a third of the play. Admittedly we were 3-0 up when Bolton started to play, but it was a worring sight and very similar to many games last season, were we did not command the play. Not a kill joy, just not getting carried away yet even if we are in top spot. Good result though.
it was our FIRST game of season,we did well and took our chances.and george please dont look into statistics too much yet, as any team going to bolton wont get too much possession.it tells you something positive that we won the game with only 37% ball possesion and they only got 1 goal with all that 63% possesion.it would be very worrying if we had all possesion and didnt win.but a very solid start for the toon, looking at the fixture list this was the hardest game for an away team, and hey the rest of the teams arent looking that great on their opening days either!!
BSA SAYS IT’S ONLY 40% CHANGES COMPLETED.SO EXPECT MORE INETERESTING THINGS COMING TO TYNSIDE.HOWAYS THE LADS.HOPEFULLY SOME SILERWARE FOR THE GEORDIES,AT LAST!
BSA is a breath of fresh air…..I have it on good authority that behind the scenes at SJP all the staff have the feel good factor back….Morty and his team are actually running the place like a PROPER business, all we need now is some reasonably priced half decent half time food!!!!!(optimistic I know)
Back to footballing matters……..anybody else kacking their pants that Oba scores 4 more goals in the next two games and a certain Frenchman with a dodgy hairstyle comes sniffing around before the transfer deadline day….. Has the get out clause been taken out his contract yet??
Hammy – my sentiments exactly, last time i heard we were re-negotiating a contract…. but that was like 2 weeks ago 🙁
I think oba knows its in his best interest to stick with the Toon… id like to hope so anyway… Arsenal havent signed any big players for years now, their manager is reluctant to sign a new contract and their board room is in bits so i hope he knows that the Gooners arent the best option.
the only thing Arsenal can offer him is European football, but tiwth the look of their team i dont think they will get far.
Nah!! We are on a up, Arse is having their 10th “transition season” in a row. There’s no comparison. Without AW, Arse is nothing! Lose him and they will lose everything, from 4th place to players to investors to fans. They will only gain mockery.
OM knows that wages is never a problem in NUFC, and he know he gotta earn it. I believe BS hs already sold the idea to him for his future with NUFC.
And for the match vs Bolton, I guess BS got his tactics right. We had so little possession is mainly becos we sat back and let Bolton attack in vain. Imagine we are still being lead by the joker GR, he will be happy at half-time, thinking maintaining the formation and style will lead to greater victory. But in the end, we will end up losing instead.
In short, effective football that wins games is good football.
An update on my health situation - we have terminated the PluVicto treatment halfway through, because of the severity of the side effects - diarrhea, vomiting, and acid reflux.
And there was no evidence the treatment was having any positive effect in stopping the prostate cancer from spreading in the bones.
There are no treatments left for me to go on.
I will go into home hospice care now and will have a hospice nurse visit me at home regularly to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and we will treat the side effects of the treatments I have had.
It's down the final stretch now, and I have run out of treatments, and nature will now take its course.
I hope Newcastle can get many wins this season from now on, and I am at peace with all of this.
Thanks for all your help through the years - it's very much appreciated
