There are a number of good interviews this morning. Several of them are with Sam Allardcye as he talks about how pleased he is with the form of David Rozehnal – our new signing from PSG.
Sam also talks about Owen and Martins having to fight it out for a single starting position. That’s not very surprising since their styles are so similar.
It also looks Sam is still after new players and there is news again that we may be after Papa Diop from Fulham.
We still haven’t seen any official word on where we stand with the Drago situation.
An update on a charity run by Mark Allison from John O’ Groats to Land’s End on behalf of St. Benedict’s Hospice. Mark had this new message on his web-site this morning.
“I could not be in better shape to face the last 4 days and 95 miles of a very grueling tour. It’s like being 3 – 0 to the good and just having to see the match out. Not something you usually associate with a team playing in Black and White!”
Mark finishes this coming weekend and we’ll run this story for the rest of the week. Here’s Mark’s web sitewhere he has a daily log and all kinds of good information about his fabulous effort. If you can contribute to Mark’s efforts please do so at this just giving site
Mark Allison – Mark is only 75 miles from the finish
Our new discussion topic is posted today – the question is What’s Newcastle’s Best Team this Season? We ask for both home (4-3-3) and away (4-4-2) formations. With the new players in our squad it’s not an easy choice.
Sam Allardyce – selection problems?
A good interview from Chairman Chris Mort who talks about his growing relationship with manager Sam Allardyce. From what he says it looks like Sam is still after more players – we wonder who these might be?
Chairman Chris Mort – new players on the way?
Sam still has to pick the Newcastle captain for this season and we don’t know whether he will do that before the start of the season this coming Saturday. Our top two choices are two new players – Geremi and Claudio Cacapa. Both have excellent experience in winning things – so that’s what we need – someone who is used to winning. That’s what Newcastle is going to start to do – starting Saturday at Bolton   :D.
Geremi – will he become Newcastle’s new captain?
Good interview with Big Sam today where he talks about Oba Martins and Michael Owen having to fight it out for the same starting place at Newcastle. That probably will not be too bad because Oba is away for the Africa’s Cup early next year – and Owen should get plenty of games then. But assumes Owen doesn’t have another injury hit season – like the last two. That’s one of Michael’s challenges – how does he stay fit to get the number of consecutive matches he needs to get match fit at Newcastle? Fans seem split on who they prefer between the two.
Michael Owen– will have to fight for his place at Newcastle
News this morning that we may again be interested in Papa Diop, the 6’4″ Senegalese midfielder from Fulham. We don’t know if there’s any truth in this story from the Daily Mirror, but we think Diop would be good for Newcastle and a typical Big Sam signing. It will give us more options in our midfield.
Papa Diop – can we get him from Fulham?
Another good interview today with Sam Allardyce. He talks about how pleased he has been with the way David Rozehnal has settled in at Newcastle. He has also looked strong on the field in his partnership with our own Steven Taylor. They were very good last Sunday against Sampdoria and are expected to start this Saturday against Bolton. They need to be very good then too.
David Rozehnal – looked very good in pre-season
Finally here’s some funny football quotes – to lighten up the day 😀
“Steven Gerrard was awesome today. We were just laughing in the dressing room that at one stage we thought he was heading his own crosses in.” – Gareth Southgate on Gerrard.
“Football is a simple game; 22 men chase a ball for 90 minutes and at the end, the Germans win.” – Gary Lineker after losing the 1990’s World Cup semifinal to Germany by penalty shootout.
“The mere fact that he’s injured stops him getting injured again, if you know what I mean” – Terry Venables
We always appreciate your comments on our Daily Update. Please keep your comments civil and decent because we have lots of youngsters reading the site – thanks
So WestHam now want Solano on a freeTransfer acording to mr Oliver. Now is this more garbage Journalism from him ,or are WestHam so pissed off with whats happend to the Dyer deal that they are trying to stir trouble in the toon camp!
“WEST HAM have turned their attention to Nobby Solano after their move for his Newcastle United colleague Kieron Dyer fell through.
But in contrast to the £6m the Hammers put on the table for Dyer, I understand that Alan Cubishley wants to pick up Solano on a free transfer.
From Solano’s point of view, he is 32 now and he would be looking for a two-year contract, although the word from East London this afternoon was that West Ham were keener on a 12-month deal.
Solano first surfaced at St James’ Park in the summer of 1998 when Kenny Dalglish paid a bargain £2.5m to Boca Juniors for the Peruvian international.
He went to Aston Villa in January 2004 and came back 18 months later, on the day Michael Owen joined United.
He is the leading United scorer on Newcastle’s books with 48 goals, and it’s fair to say he is a legend on Tyneside.”
HAs Oliver forgotten or not even noticed that Solano signed a new 1 year deal this summer, or that he has played in most of the preseason games, or that aside from Dyer allardyce has said he does not want to let anyone else go??
But no as far as he is concerned West Ham will be able to get Solano for free!!!
Why the hell would we let a faithful servant to this club, a toon legend in the making if not already so, definately still a main member of the first team squad, and some people’s choice for captain, go to West Ham for nothing?!?!
Total rubbish from Anal-O-Lover again. And no one asked your opinion Alan about when Dyer should have been sold. Your opinion means nothing, you’re a reporter, so report (the facts not your thoughts). And stop drinking so heavily, your nose is getting so red now that its obvious you’re either; a) related to rudolph the red nose reindeer b) drinking bottles of famous grouse every night
As for Bouba Diop, I don’t want him. Nicky Butt and Geremi can do a job there until we find a quality DM for that position. Another versatile defender and possibly a midfielder (who’s also versatile) would be great!
I really like Matt Taylor of Portsmouth. Very versatile playing LB, ML, MC. Big, strong, quick and good on the ball as well as a killer left foot! Prtsmouth would want to keep him, but lure of playing for a big club might be enough to prise him away!
yeah that would be a good signing Kash but would be very suprised if we could get him. Plus i wouldnt be surprised to see Portsmouth around the european spots this year, a back five of James, Lauren, Campbell, Distin, and Taylor looks pretty solid to me, and they have got some good players further up the park as well.
Harry has bought full backs who can play centre back. They’re going to be difficult to break down this season. But again, its Portsmouth and the place is a dump. There facilities are poor, ground is rubbish amd Harry is the glue keeping them together. Surely he’s only got another 2 seasons left?!
But Taylor would only be squad again, considering Enrique will hopefully take his place once fully up to speed.
I would think Nobby would be a little P****d of himself over this, especially as we fought tooth and nail to get him back from Villa. I get the impression he would probably want to see out his career on Tyneside and possibly come onto the coaching staff. He is still good for at least 2 more seasons or more.
The Solano story is rubbish. Solano looks like a new player under Big Sam and he really looks like he’s enjoying himself and of course playing great – in fact Milner and Solano both look so dangerous. He’s always been a skillful player. Why would he ever want to leave Newcastle – especially now? Guess there’s not much news right now. Although his contract has one year left he can play at least 2 years after that – hopefully that will be at Newcastle because as long as he keeps extra fit his skills will always be there.
Nobby is a class act. He must stay until he wants to retire . I agree he is how a professional should behave . Loyal , committed and uncomplaining .A real role model never mind a class footballer . West Ham and anybody else LEAVE him alone TOP GUY is Nobby
Ed- really can’t see him leaving Newcastle. Like I said he kept his house, which is round the corner from my Aunty. While he was at Villa, he was always back in Newcastle. He and his family are totally settled. He won’t leave for a 1 year contract. And most likely he’ll get another contract from us.
Kash — he damm well deserves it . He has stuck with us through all the bad times as well as some of the Good times . I could nt beleive it when he was sold to Villa . Ridiculous was that . Glad he is back where he belongs
IF Dire stays I hope he repays all what the club has done for him by playing his heart out . That might just go a little way to appeasing the Fans . He then might be worth the £8m . Its up to him innitt !!!!! Esp If Joey gets sent down which I hope he doesnt as I think he is a class act as a footballer . Good nidfield of Solano Barton Geremi and Milner as a starting 4
I asso think Nobby is going to have one of his best seasons – he’s really looked great in pre-season. He’s also learning a lot from Sam – that he’ll use when he becomes a manager. Very surprised at Oliver’s story – it makes no sense at all.
Theres a couple of interesting new items come through. Sam apparently stated that the injuries to various players will improve with blood flowing them. As opposed to what. are we talking androids again. Also Eggert is saying that Newcastle should be ashamed over the Dyer deal, the words kettle, pot and black spring to mind!!
“Why after being messed around by Newcastle with the Dyer deal would they comeback to do business with us again.”
How do you know that this is the case. Sam Allardyce said that it was a confidential matter. There are 2 sides to every story and Newcastle would not mess West Ham about for nothing. Perhaps “the West Ham gobshites in the casino conspiracy” is nearer the truth than people think!
i read that luque wants to leave…i guess that’s true… with smith on board, he probably won’t get as many chances with us as he should have… tough call between those two… smith can be the motor of our squad (as long as he doesn’t start being arrogat…again), but luque is the most talented player we’ve got… as for diop…don’t think buying him is the most smart thing to do…another midfielder who’ll be gone during ANC…we’ll already be without geremi…
An update on my health situation - we have terminated the PluVicto treatment halfway through, because of the severity of the side effects - diarrhea, vomiting, and acid reflux.
And there was no evidence the treatment was having any positive effect in stopping the prostate cancer from spreading in the bones.
There are no treatments left for me to go on.
I will go into home hospice care now and will have a hospice nurse visit me at home regularly to ensure I am as comfortable as possible and we will treat the side effects of the treatments I have had.
It's down the final stretch now, and I have run out of treatments, and nature will now take its course.
I hope Newcastle can get many wins this season from now on, and I am at peace with all of this.
Thanks for all your help through the years - it's very much appreciated
