Major Newcastle News Stories - July 5th - 2007

July 5th, 2007 by Ed Harrison · 24 Comments

Here are the major news stories associated with the Newcastle club for today - in no particular order of priority.

The major news story (at least on our site) is that Sam Allardyce may be able to bring in one massive signing this summer to go with all the other good buys he is making. If that’s true - and it would not be unreasonable - wonder who Sam would bring in - certainly interesting just thinking about it - and we’re sure Sam would have some players immediately come to his mind.

  • Interesting news coming from a source close to Ashley - that Sam may make one massive singing in the summer. The quote was made the same time that Chris Mort was being interviewed so we wouldn’t really be surprised if it was Chris himself - and he probably didn’t want to be associated with the comment - but probably also wanted to let the cat out of the bag.

  • We have a transfer update on a player that is being mentioned more regularly of late - that of Brede Hageland - a 6′4″ center back from Norway. Not surprising that he would love to come to Newcastle - and it may be that Sam will go after him as it looks certain that if we do get Edmilson it will be on January 1st next year.

  • Story that Mike Ashley and Chris Mort thought the Toon army were a key factor in Ashley going after Newcastle United. Chris Mort - who will seemingly become either Chairman or Chief executive - or both at Newcastle when Shepherd moves on - paid the Newcastle fans a glowing tribute in his comments.

  • Still have that general article on SoccerLens today - analyzing which clubs can break into the top four in next few years. You guessed it - Newcastle are right up there. Take a look because it’s interesting in the comments and on the SoccerLens Forum for the article - what other people think of what’s happening under Sam Allardyce at Newcastle - most think it’s very positive for Newcastle.

  • We’ll give the funny football quotes a rest for today - let me know if you think we should keep these quotes in the daily new update.

We always appreciate your comments on these stories.

As for the article on soccerlens, I think it is very interesting reading, and its true :) Tottenham are beginning to look quiet scary I think, but I’ve got to say the have overpaid for their 3 signings so far. Newcastle are also going to be serious contenders in next 2-3 years I think.

    Oh well - no takers.
    Here’s what I got

    Forwards
    Saha
    Guivarch

    Midfielders
    Robert
    N’Zogbia
    Ginola

    Defenders
    Bernard
    Babayaro
    Boumsong
    Goma
    Distin
    Domi
    Charvet

I think No.13 is Dumas but I can’t remember if he was french or not

  • 7 Cathal // Jul 5, 2007 at 12:46

“The quotes” are what I read the “Major Newcastle News Stories” bit for. I read all the articles from the main page.

    Keep the quotes!

Like the website, well chuffed I stumbled into it about a month back.

The “massive signing” would have been Peter Crouch if Fat Freddy was still 100% in charge! :P

I would like to see someone with real class arrive. Perhaps a play maker such as Roman Riquelme as a few of you have suggested. He would be amazing in the premiership. Other than Riquelme I can’t think of any “realistic” signings we could make. Perhaps Tevez which I have mentioned before but it will more than likely be a midfielder. Perhaps we should break the bank for Frank Lampard?

Either Riquelme or Lampard would be fantastic.. it would certainly put bums on seats! :D

Duh - forgot Sibierski was French - just checked on Dumas he was french - now manager of Caen.
So that would make the 13
    Saha, Guivarch
    Robert, N’Zogbia, Ginola, Sibierski
Bernard, Boumsong, Goma, Distin, Domi, Charvet, Dumas

  • 11 joel gledhill // Jul 5, 2007 at 14:57

i reckon we should get as many quality defenders as we can and also we need to make one big signing over the summer! you get me

  • 12 Watson // Jul 5, 2007 at 15:55

Gabriel Heinze .Man Utd.£6million. Left Back. Class. Enough Said.

  • 13 Outlaw // Jul 5, 2007 at 16:16

I heard we’re after Villa, Messi and Lampard today. Don’t know where that came out of??..

  • 14 jeff // Jul 5, 2007 at 16:17

It dos’nt matter what transfer target we go for (world shattering or not ) west ham will try and put a higher bid in!has curbishly not got a mind of his own.He waits to see what other managers try and get in, then tries to hijack the deal.Is he so clueless, that he cant identify his own transfer targets.they are the laughing stock of the premiership at the moment.Rangers bid 3M for faubert,so those cockney dopes bid 6M!….HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH..HAHAHA.Will my pants ever dry i wonder.

  • 15 Phill // Jul 5, 2007 at 17:02

please bring back the football quotes, they are 50% of the reason i read this. =] also lookin forward to this ‘big new signing’ =D

  • 16 Ed Harrison // Jul 5, 2007 at 17:02

Outlaw - somebody’s pulling our leg on that one i think.

  • 17 Ed Harrison // Jul 5, 2007 at 17:04

Ok - we’ll keep the quotes in - some of them are hilarious and i at least have a good time putting them in - laughing all the time. Have got some good ones from Gaza - maybe tomorrow.

  • 18 Ed Harrison // Jul 5, 2007 at 17:05

Watson - we like Heinze a lot - he’s a right character - and a good player. My son’s favorite player in fact. He may be a bit short for what Sam’s looking for - but 6M is good price - believe ManU paid 10M for him.

  • 19 jh // Jul 5, 2007 at 18:20

    Andy T!

I think we once got a french goalkeeper Lionel Perez, that played for Sunderland before!

  • 20 jeff // Jul 5, 2007 at 18:28

did lionel perez play in the premiership with us? I’m not sure that he di. Someone will know.

  • 21 Outlaw // Jul 5, 2007 at 19:59

Ed - Man U actually paid same price of 6 mil for him. I remember!

  • 22 Andy T // Jul 5, 2007 at 20:54

jh - Perez never played in a premiership match.

  • 23 Aussie Toon // Jul 6, 2007 at 3:06

The problem for us attracting any big signing will not be the amount of money we spend but the no-show in Europe. Fingers crossed we will be back there next year :)

  • 24 Pete // Jul 6, 2007 at 8:31
