Gary Megson has just taken over at Bolton Wanderers following the mutual agreement last week that former manager Sammy Lee and Bolton should part ways.
Gary immediately has paid huge compliments to the man who built Bolton Wanderers up from very little money to a top performing club. Sam Allardyce has never really got the full credit he deserves for his wonderful work at the Lancashire club.
This is an excellent appointment we think by Boltoln manager Phil Gartsiide and hopefully for all Bolton fans, Gary can have an immediate impact at the club.
New duo at Bolton – manager Megson with chairman Gartside – how about a smile lads?
Gary Megson said today:
“This is Sam Allardyce’s football club,” “Sam’s all around the place because he set it up and it’s hard to follow that. But that happens at a football club when a manager has been there for a long time.â€
“Things that Sam wanted, things that Sam set in stone are here and are actually set in stone.†“We’ve got to try to use those things that Sam brought into the club – and the things Sammy Lee brought as well, although he wasn’t here for such a length of time.”
One of the criticisms of Lee was that he changed far too much too soon in an attempt to get Wanderers doing things his own way.
Megson continued:
“It’s in the past, but it wouldn’t be right to stop talking about Sam Allardyce,”
“Sam did a fantastic job at this football club. Sam’s in the history and folklore of this football club and there’s no point trying to deny that, it should be embraced.â€
“He completely transformed it with some great ideas.†“I don’t care whose idea it is, we’ll keep it going, if it’s the right thing to do.”
Megson is still looking at the squad he has inherited and will consult his coaches before naming his side for tomorrow’s Premiership clash with Aston Villa at the Reebok. It will be good to see Gary back on the touchline at Premiership games again, showing all his passion and enthusiasm again.
It looks like Gary is very willing to embrace the Allardyce formula, now in operation at Newcastle United, for making Wanderers uncompromising and hard to beat. Megson believes he has inherited talented players, and the team should be nowhere near the bottom of the league. We think Bolton have made a good choice with Megson, who could well bring the Bolton squad together after the turmoil everybody at the club went through with Sammy Lee.
Megson continued:
“A lot of the players who were signed here, were signed to play in a certain manner†“They were signed with certain attributes and I’m going to get a team out there which has got square pegs in square holes.”
“Whoever they may be, we need to utilize them to get the best for this football club.”
We hope Gary has great success at Bolton Wanderers – a club steeped in a great tradition – and we hope they can persevere in the Premiership this season.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #5Such a defense line up and no ambition going forward, yet Reading still should have scored 4, what’s the point in playing like this?

Comment #6wasnt sammy lee’s fault , gartside wanted him to change the style around .
should have stuck with long ball game and added to it gradually rather than start from scratch .
megsons gonna come in and do exactly that for some results .
