The readers on the Newcastle United Blog have selected the following team for tomorrow’s game with Everton.
Given
Beye Cacapa Rozehnal Enrique
Milner Butt Emre N’Zogbia
Viduka Martins
Subs: Harper, Taylor, Geremi, Smith, Faye
We did have 5 teams from which to pick and these can be seen on Thursday’s article in which are readers voted. In the selection process we hadn’t assumed Owen was available for the game and don’t think he should be risked, in any case. We think this is a good team that can get all 3 points. The defense may be the best we can muster right now, and does include Enrique at left back, because he came though the Reserves game on Tuesday night at Everton with another 90 minutes under his belt. He’s got to be ready for a league start now surely. Cacapa at the back will give us that little more experience that we lacked last Saturday at Manchester City. When Allardyce brings in the Brazilian Edmilson from Barcelona in January, which we fully expect, there’s going to be even more competition for the two central defensive positions – great 😀
Emre also played on Tuesday night and was the star man, scored a goal direct from a free kick, and we don’t see why he shouldn’t start tomorrow. He will add some creativity to our central midfield. It looks like Barton will be back for our next game on 22nd October so we should start to see more creativity in midfield now. Having N’Zogbia on the left wing and James Milner on the other will give us an attacking thrust down both wings.
Viduka and Martins up front almost pick themselves since both played quite well last week at Manchester City and both Ameobi and Owen will be doubtful for tomorrow.
Here are the results of our two polls with Team 1 getting a good 72% of the votes.
.
We also conduced a poll on who should be goalkeeper and Given got 80% of the votes.
This is our first time trying picking a team for the next game so please let’s have comments on how we can possibly improve this. Certainly there were lots of good comments on Thursday and yesterday on team selection. Wonder if Sam will be swayed – we think not – and we feel he’s going to find a place for Alan Smith somewhere in the starting line-up.
Comments always welcome.

Comment #1Personally I’d have had any of the four midfielders instead of Butt with Owen on the bench be interesting to see what Sam picks.

Comment #2Bill – we think Geremi or Faye could play the defensive midfield position – with not too much difference between them. You’re right about Owen – probably on the bench.

Comment #5Hopefully Geremi wont play as he has been pants all season. And let’s face it, BSA will never pick the team on here as it shows some attacking flair!

Comment #6Having cogitated on my first comment I am partially in agreement with Macas. I don’t think he has enough faith in them yet to start Emre and Enrique. I think Z0g will be LB with Geremi in as Captain and probably Taylor also in the starting lineup. His thinking imo (trendy or What) is that Everton don’t have so may speed merchants as City and that they will tire as the match progresses, then he will stick on Emre and Owen to take advantage of that.

Comment #15I would play Geremi not Butt, and get Smith in there somewhere, even at the expense of Viduka if necessary. Viduka as center forward? Forget it. I know this site is turning into a Mark Viduka fan club, so maybe I’m the only one who thinks he’s been smart / lucky, but showing little effort? From what I can see on TV, he seems to be walking or standing still, not running with any effort. Has anyone who’s been to a game comment — does he ever run or show much effort?

Comment #16Can somebody explain why they would rather have Geremi than Butt?
