We are going to do a test run on the Newcastle United Blog is to see if we can get the best team from our readers for the next game Newcastle play.
In this case it’s Everton on Sunday and of course as usual we will have injuries so some players will not be available.
Obviously we need to pick players who are available and you can view the STATS along the top of the site to see the injury list and return dates.
Newcastle United Blog Team of the Week – these guys are probably way too old now
This was an idea from one of our readers. Here’s the section of the comment that put forward the idea yesterday – it’s from Danger Mouse. Oct 2, 2007 at 19:33
One idea that I would like to see you implement is to draw up a list of four or five starting line-ups for people to vote on. Just a quick survey each week until match day.
So here’s the procedure I dreamed up last night:
- A discussion topic is posted at least a week before the match and that is already happening. In this case it’s Newcastle vs Everton Sunday 7th October, 2007 15:00 KO
- Put your potential teams in the Newcastle United Forum before every match. Some of you are already doing this as part of the match discussion.
- Then two days before each game we’ll pick 5 of the best (and different) teams from the forum and put together a poll you can then vote on.
- The day before the match we’ll publish the results of the poll and what our readers have chosen as the best team
- We’ll send the team to Big Sam and expect him to play that team the next day.
Well maybe we’ll not bother with step 5 😀
Can anyone think of a good name for this?   Newcastle United Blog Team of the Week perhaps?
Let’s try it out for 2 or 3 games and see if it works. If it doesn’t we’ll think up something else that does work for us. Thanks and comments always welcome.

Comment #4Team for this weekend should be
Given
Beye-Rozenthal-Faye-Enrique
Milner-Geremi-Emre-N-Zogbia
Viduka-Martins
Play with 2 wingers and get wide and put balls in the box, emre for the creativity that we have been missing recently, even if you only get 70mins from him

Think Taylor needs a bit of a rest, he had a poor game against City and time to give Faye his chance to prove his worth with a start. Also want to see Milner and Zog on the wings and emre introduced into the middle to give us some much needed cretivity!Think this team looks good on paper just hope it bludy works!

I wouldn’t play geremi in this game as i think he goes backwards to often, we relly need to be positive in this game and get at everton because if we don’t they will pinish us. The reason I have put smith in there is he will get box to box and given a chance in front of goal he won’t freeze.
Bench: Harper, Geremi, Emre, Faye, Ameobi (if fit)

Moving Smith into centre mid will make a big difference, just watch how much more involved he would be in the final 3rd! If Viduka isn’t 100% as he has been struggling to play 2 games in a row recently i’d move smith upfront and put emre in midfield.

i would try this team, need to try a 4-4-2,playing butt smith and geremi in middle together not working, too similar to each other.id give smith a chance in middle because on the wing he has been useless, needs to stop diving into every tackle, start with emre for creativity.geremi at the back,i dont think he has offered much in the middle.

—————–Given——————-
Beye—–Taylor—-Roz—-Enrique
——————-Faye——————
Milner———-Emre————–Zog
———–Viduka—Martins———-
Subs:
Harper (Played well so far, but Given is too good)
Geremi (DM cover. Also, if CB cover needed, Faye can drop back)
Smith (AM/CF cover)
Troisi (AM cover)
Ameobi (begrudgingly, but no other out-and-out striker fit)
Attacking options – Beye and Enrique to use speed for going forward up the wings with Faye providing defensive cover. Milner to get crosses in whenever possible, and Zog to get some runs on the wing as well as cutting in and running at defense whenever possible. Emre and Beye have to work well together though. Martins and Vid to do what they do.
Defensive options – Rozenhal and Taylor to stay strong and rely on some good cover from Faye. Emre will need to cover when needed.
However, all that said, I fully expect Sam to play the team above, but as a 4-3-3 with defense as above, and Geremi, Butt and Zog in midfield, with Milner and Martins supporting Viduka up front. This will inevitably lead to us losing the midfield AGAIN as Butt and Geremi are tosh when they play together! I reckon a 0-0 draw or 1-0 to Everton unfortunately – unless Sam changes tactics!
Oh, and please please please please stop Geremi from taking the corners and free-kicks – Milner, Zog or Emre please…

Comment #22Keeper: Harper – He´s been the better one all season long in my opinion and the team just plays better with him.
Defenders: Beye Faye Taylor Enrique – Beye is an obvious one. Taylor doesn´t need a rest, I myself feel is performance wasn´t as bad as everyon seem to think. Rozy aint good enough in my opinion and you will see that as the season goes on. At least he and Taylor can´t play together. Faye is a must in the defense, put some muscle there. Enrique also an obvious one. It´s time for him to shine.
Midfield: Martins Geremi Zogbia Milner – Martins just isn´t a striker, you have seen the chances he misses, unbelieveable really how he misses easy chances but he can then again turn up and do something extra ordinary. On the wing he gets more room and I think he would be fantastic there. Geremy is a solid player though I haven´t been impressed, he could anchor the midfield. I feel like we need someone as Zogbia in the midfield to be able to spread the ball and drive forward with it. And Milne the only option on the left then.
Forwards: Smith Viduka – Anyone remember them at least? There were absoloutly fantastic, must forward pairing against Everton I feel. Viduka and Martins just don´t hit it off while playing together.

Geremi – Emre – Butt – N’Zogbia
Viduka – Martins
Subs: Harper – Taylor (makes too many stupid mistakes, which often lead to goals) – Milner – Smith –
@ Johan
Are you serious?
1) Martins isn’t a striker, okay he missed 2 great chances against Arsenal and WHU. One of those two was a bad miss, the 2nd one didn’t matter cause that game was in our bag. Have you seen the finish last Saturday at Man City? Pure quality!!!
2) Rozehnal is way better than Taylor; I think every time those 2 play together Taylor is the one who makes the stupid mistakes. Rozehnal and Cacapa is our best central duo, but if Cacapa isn’t available Roz should defenitely play, and certainly not Taylor. Faye and Roz in defencenext Sunday.

Beye will be good if he is completely gelled in the team and if he gets to be used to the EPL. If you have to play in a team which isn’t performing at a good level, then it is very difficult. Don’t be too hard on him now, give him 1 month to settle in the team and then IMO we will see another Beye who will be a very good and solid RB at the Toon.

Comment #30I think Beye should have played in that reserves game. I’m still not convinced he’s 100% match fit. I don’t think he’s rubbish tho’ just not match fit and still little bit unsettled – even for a professional – it takes time. He looks better than Carr though 😀

Comment #33i agree with Craig Allen about Beye the guy does not look 100% fit yet, but does look a class act ,cant wait untill he is top fit untill then i would try our captain in that position he has played there before and Taylor looks a bit burned out.The under 21 games in the summer for England have maybe took there toll.

Comment #37does BSA visit this blog to see the fans opinions?? although i agree with almost all of the line up suggested in here, but i still have a feeling that the stubborn BSA will stick to his favorite 4-3-3 formation, which frustrates me really hard….

Comment #38I think Jóhann hasn´t been watching the same team we have, and what’s up with you wanting to have martins on the wing???
GK: Given – it´s his time to shine again
RB: Beye – was very good against west ham and i think was a very smart buy.
LB: Enrique – I want to see him start, we have waited long enough, it is time to unlease the BULL.
CB: Taylor – Is a brilliant player and gives 100 % everytime he plays
CB: Rozenhal – I think he has been brilliant this season, don´t understand why people are saying he hasn´t, i think he is strong at the back and he loves to come forward, it is going to be sooner rather than later we are going to see his name on the scoresheet.
RM: Milner – I just adore him, he is the one who needs to create the goals.
LM: N’Zogbia – Best player this season, want to see him on the wing, think he can create and score more there.
DM: Geremi – Had a great start to the season, has been solid lately but nothing more than that. I think it is his time to shine, with the likes of emre and joey barton nearly fit.
AM: Emre – I want him in the side, he brings so much creativity to the side and can give the everton defence a hard time.
ST: Viduka – Who can forget his preformance against West Ham? he was not good against man city but i think he will get on the scoresheet against Everton.
ST: Oba Martins – Not a typical striker Jóhann??? when he gets a run going in the team he dosen´t let us down, he is a exellent player, he can be a match winner and i think he will be the man of the match on Sunday.
I want Smith in the starting 11 but there is no place for him, but i think sam has to rotate his midfield players so each of them get plenty of playing time.
Newcastle 3 Martins 2, emre 1

Comment #40If you´d get 20 chances you are bound to score one. Martins reminds me a lot more of Ronaldo. Can play as a striker and do it okay but I think he will be a lot better as a winger. Martins can disappear in games and misses easy chances which is very frustrating. He does score his special goals but I want him to produce every game, not now and then. The reason Owen took his place is simple. Martins scored two goals in the first game and what then? Nothing.
