David Rozehnal finally signed for Newcastle this afternoon and officially becomes the 3rd player brought in by Sam Allardyce. He will cost Newcastle an initial £2.9M, with a further £200,000 to be paid depending on appearances.
But even before he signed he was talking yesterday as though he was already a Newcastle player. He is also down to earth as he talks about hoping to make the starting line-up. Since we will have Taylor, Rozehnal and potentially Edmislon (and others?) fighting for two center-back spots - it doesn’t sound as strange as it first appears. Hopefully it also shows the strength of squad Sam is building for next season.

David Rozehnal
This is what Rozehnal told premierleague.cz today:
“It can happen [that the defense will not work perfectly from the start], but I believe it will not happen,” “I believe that the manager will prepare the defense in the way that will work as well as possible and that we will occupy the top places.
I want to prove myself as I did in previous spells, and to get into the starting line-up.
I am looking forward to the start of the season. It will be something new, a different and more quality competition and the stadiums will be full of fans - that will be wonderful.”
It looks like Rozehnal is already aware of Joey Barton’s reputation after his training ground bust-up with Ousmane Dabo at Eastlands late last season. David went on:
“What happened there certainly is not a part of football, on the other hand Barton is a great footballer,”
“For sure, I will not get into any fight with him!”

Ousmane Dabo after Barton Altercation
We certainly hope Barton has left his old ways behind – Sam Allardyce and the fans will not put up with any of this nonsense from Barton at Newcastle.
On a brighter note - Rozehnal has now signed for the club - after a few days undepected delay. That’s good - so who’s next in the door?

I’m not too worry but very confused as to why we’ve not had anything ‘official’ from the club about this transfer.

Agreed. Press conferences are usually Monday aren’t they? He might be hoping to show off a few new faces at once..
The club needs a confidence boost. He has already released players who made a negative impact on the team and replaced them with proven international players. I would give Sam a 9 out of 10 for the work he has done so far. Fantastic start.

He has just signed for 4.3 Million. Official announcement has just been made to the PLC regarding the signing of Rozenhal.
Brilliant defender in my opinion. Both of our centre backs are big, strong and athletic and they can also tackle well. All we need now is fullbacks..

I updated the piece at the beginning and end - with the fact David has now signed - that’s good. Who’s next?

2.9M pounds plus 200K depending on appearances. Sam makes a mean deal! Great signing!

I am sure it said 4.3 million on the stock exchange announcement. However this might include all hidden fees..
I think Edmilson, Gudjohnsen and Geremi. If we can try and get someone like Shorey or Bridge/Sagna we would look very good indeed for next season.

Ed - It could be 4.3 M euros. Not 100% sure but probable.
Ahh it reminds me of the Keegan days.. signings galore
more to come shortly?

i have never seen our newest defender ever play before, i hope he is as good as what sam thinks though. lots of news around at the minute. i think that we are buying gudjohnsen from barc and not Edmilson. Barca anmounced just a few hours ago that he was not going anywhere and is firmly in their plans for the second part of the season. it begs the question, why did sam go out there in the first place?? has to be gudj eh! this coupled with the fact that manure are reportedly just finalising a deal to buy owen makes me think that next week will see owen a man utd player. I think sam has a gentlemans agreement in place that they allow him to get owens replacement in place before owens departure is announced. Further evidence of owen going is that sam has came out and said that as soon as martins comes back next week that he will try to tie him onto a new and improved contract without any daft clauses in it - he has not once indicated that he will be doing or even trying doing this with owen. i dont mind to be honest, martins is a much hotter prospect than owen is and everyone knows that they will not compliment each other in the same line up. owen is going lads for sure - i just hope that martins stays.

Yeah on the press release, it was 4.3M Euro’s, not pounds.
Great signing, well chuffed.
He’s now talking the talk, lets hope all goes well and he walks the walk.
Toon Toon.

Sounds plausable craig, owen can’t be sold officially until sunday, so maybe BSA is frantically trying to sort things out asap. If owen is going then it is best, sooner than later.

i think maybe hell unveil 4 or 5 players at a press conference on the transfer window openin day (sunday) or monday 2nd…..think this could include everyone tht we already know is signed [viduka, barton and now rozehnal and possibly …. edmilson, gudjonson, geremi?? maybe even shorey???

Spanish Directors and Club Officials always make silly statements though. I think he will sign regardless as he will not get in the Barca team for a long time so it makes sense financially.
Also Barca tend to look after players they like and help them find a new club.
Rozenhal has all the tools I think he will be find. Czech players are very strong mentally and he should be superb with Taylor. Rozenhal was voted into the french team of the year last season.

Who next? Who cares? As long as they want to play for the Toon and us lot (the fans) and not just because they’ll get a good wedge.

Finally! He signed. I hope he will gel with other players quickly. A superb signing indeed… Well done Big Sam! It looks like our team will be tougher to crack next season
