The Newcastle United chairman, Chris Mort, yesterday described rumors emanating from the daily gossip papers that Blackburn Rovers’ Mark Hughes is being lined up to replace Sam Allardyce at Newcastle as ludicrous.
Sam is under attack, because Newcastle have lost their last two games, and have played really poorly in both those games.
Newcastle Chairman Chris Mort – ludicrous news of the World Story on Sunday – what’s new?
When Newcastle Chairman Chris Mort was asked to comment on a News of the World report on Sunday, that Mark Hughes of Blackburn, was being lined up by Newcastle’s owner, Mike Ashley, Mort said:
“This kind of story does not merit a response; it is ludicrous.”
That’s a good description of most NOTW reports.
It’s understood the person Mort and Ashley see long term as the Newcastle manager after Sam Allardyce is Alan Shearer. The hope is that Alan could be persuaded to manage his home-town club, once his contract with the BBC expires in two years’ time. Alan has never denied he would love to do that, at some point in his career.
Where exactly Shearer will get any management experience from before then is anybody’s guess, and we would have thought it was a huge risk if Alan took over Newcastle, as his first management appointment.
Although other players who have obvious leadership skills as players, such as Roy Keane at Sunderland, seem to have done OK – it’s still a big risk for a club like Newcastle. To say that Newcastle is not an easy club to manage, is a huge understatement, even for experienced managers such as Big Sam.
But the main thing at Newcastle right now is to get the wagon back on track. It may be that Newcastle’s disaster is truly a one off, and certainly if we can get back on track with a win on Saturday, against local rivals Sunderland, that will go a long way to returning the confidence of both fans and players alike.
Hopefully we can do that on Saturday, because the international break follows that game, and a defeat is just unthinkable.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #1too bad. i know some people dont agree with me but i dont think hes gona do any good for us. i think he should go in the summer so we can get the best manager with his own ideas and players to come in. i think it should be a continental manger. mort and ashley are new to the business so it will take them time to get to grips with whats going on and realise that another path is the best one. toon fans demand winning good football. rite now and for a while we havnt been getting either.

Comment #3Talk about sacking BSA is rediculous. He needs time and needs to replace several more players and build up a decent squad.
This takes time as he’ll need to replace many players such as Carr, Babayaro, Pattison, and Ameobi; possibly even Emre, Cacapa, Viduka, Owen, etc before we start playing decent football.
We must give BSA time and not ask he be sacked because the players selected are not big enough to stand and be counted…..

Comment #8At least lets give him more of a chance than Souness, Gullit, Dalgleish. He is already done more than they ever did. We are certainly getting less injuries that has to be a positive and he is able to attract more (better) players than Roeder ever could. Things were looking up till the last two blips.

Comment #10Blackburn Rovers’ Mark Hughes is being lined up to replace Sam Allardyce at Newcastle as ludicrous.
Aye! The point to replace Sam with Mark Hughes was the ludicrous one, but I don’t think both Ashley or Mort will do that. If they want someone to replace Allardyce, that person should be either having the same quality as Cappello, Wenger, or Mourinho. I would love to try any of them as the new Toon manager, emmm…Lippi anyone?

Comment #11Mark Hughes took over from Souness. He has gradually built them upto a good top 6 team, in Europe etc. In that time we had Ssouness then 15 months of Glen. Sam has only had 6 months of which half that time was no games.
Lets see where Sam has taken Newcastle after the same time that Hughes has had at Blackburn.

Comment #15I have lost confidence with big sam.Really scared about the saturday’s match.
sunderland have played well even without a top class player. But i think if sam can use the right players in their favourite position ,then we can have a chance of winning or getting a draw.
If we loose the match then i think the next step is to sack the manager because it doesn’t take a good manager a whole season to build a squad. After all,he was the one that bought the players,so it shouldn’t be having problem selecting is best players.
I have been a toon fan for long but after sir bobby robson,i’m sick and tired of these other british manager they have been employing.

Comment #16‘indian toon’, be honest when is the last time you saw peter crouch have a full game. And how many times have you seen in the paper that peter crouch wants a full game. And reading other reports on liverpools newsnow website ,they are after 2-4 other strikers.so what do you say on that?

Comment #18now.. from where the hell did peter crouch come from… i didnt comment on the guy… but anyways… if peter comes to newcastle we’ll be a big threat in the air, the guy is aerial dominance personified.. can help out defences… we can launch the ball into their defence’s.. it’s obvious as a liverpool and ex southhampton player has good link up skills.. we badly need him, only if he could come.. we cant rely too heavily on viduka.. once u tear a hamstring it’s quite difficult to be at the same level as u age…

Comment #20sorry indian toon . but if everyone starts talking about strikers on the website it will spread out to the papers and it will make sam allydyce awear that we want a new dangerous new striker. example we talk about BSA alot and look what has happened ,its all over the papers because it is what the people on websites are saying,so if everyone starts talking about strikers it will be known that we want one,and we want a new striker in january./wite back

Comment #21k. i can understand.. but we do need striker’s in jan coz oba’s got the cup of nations.. shola might leave.. so we’ve got the oz, smith, owen and carroll, we cant depend on the oz for his injuries and carroll for his inexperience.. so we do need replacements all over the pitch,,..

Comment #23Allardyce will be off in the summer unless he finishes in the top 6. Of that I have no doubt about. If after Allardce is sacked however, we go in in for either Shearer or Mark Hughes then this current management are just as big fools as Shepherd and co. were!!!

Comment #28We’ve lost four matches to teams that should not even be in our league( derby, reading, man city and now pompey). Lovely just lovely. these are games we cannot afford to concede if we expect to reach Europe. The only match i would be willing to accept loosing is man city. to date i count six matches we were unprepared for and that includes draws to boro and villa. Don’t know what’s going on here with Sam and his preparation and team selection. But, i am loosing patience. We have a decent team , individually these lads have excellent quality and heart. can somebody with football knowledge help me cope with this rubbish in Newcastle. I like Sam but i’m fed up with the nonsense.

Comment #29i think newcastle fans can be patient as long as progress is being made .
id imagine , if we were playing some sexy football again (ala keegan/bobby) , most toon fans wouldnt mind seeing us finish midtable .
lets face it , ‘we’ never sacked bobby , he’d had his years to settle in and start building , and then the progress started tobe made … untill a couple of bad games and fat fred sacked him .
every toon fan out there realises managers need time to get it right , we’ve never been responsible for sacking our managers , infact i dont know many people who were happy about bobbys sacking , i even turned my back on the club and swore not to hand over any more cash while freddy was there .
one thing no toon fan will put up with tho is us playing like shite and losing ,
allerdyce needs to either play good looking football or win , one or the other but preferably both . allerdyce will be fine if either of these starts to happen .
in my mind most of our managers sackings came after supporters chanting to sack the board and fat freddy using the sackings to save his own skin .

Comment #31When keegan was manager the time was different, i cant beleive some of u guys actually think that he could come back and “save us”… He had the chance at Man City later on and he failed, Big Sam is the better of the two, no doubt. Regarding Shearer, perhaps, perhaps not, but i think he should prove himself first, we shouldnt be a training post.

Comment #32the thing about geordie’s ,is were a sucker for seeing our own come good .
the appeal of keegan and shearer is to hard to pass down for this community , no wonder there are still supporters itching for one of them .
whatever happens its pretty obvious to me , we wont see the full benefit of ashleys millions while there is someone in change he didnt appoint .
i belive every manager needs time , big sam is no different , but what’s the point of having a sugar daddy when we dont get to see the benefit ?
ashley is renouned for disliking any kind of dodgy buissnes deal , and with sams bung history and reports of his agent taking cuts in our transfers days after joining the club , i dont think sam’s trusted by our board in that respect.

Comment #33sam allardyces self titled brand of “results first football” without results make sam look like he has no plan b or infact no idea what hes doing at all.
when hughes took over blackburn they might not have got a load of results but when they lost they didnt go down without kicking and fighting for every ball.
were not even doing that.

Comment #34joel the post is with regards to the story of allardyce potentially being sacked..naturally the comments are going to link in with the topic in question..
allardyce wont get sacked, its a stupid thing to say, and the fact its from the NOTW shows its utter rubbish.
the problem with us lot is that when changes are made, we want to see the differences immediatly. its not as easy as that. we’ve been a team with bags of potential…yet under performers, for years now. some of the managers we’ve had in the past havent been the best, but allardyce is a very good manager. give him time, let him find his best squad and work with them. the changes will eventually begin to become apparent.

Comment #35Sam has improved the squad and we are futher forward than this time last season under roeder.Sam still needs time to get his players used to playing to his ideas.Ok he has made mistakes but both he and the players can learn from those mistakes. We all thought that Cacapa was class and while he is beter than Bramble and Moore ever were, the last 2 games show that maybe the premership is not the place for him. That said Rozy, Enrique ,Beye and Faye look at home in the premership so that is 4 good defenders in .Which is not bad out of 5 signings and maybe cacapa will still adjust to the pace of the epl.so i think we should stop calling for sam to be sacked and lets wait at least to the end of the season before saying whether he has done a decent job this season.

Comment #36Good point Alex…everybody and his dog could see where Newcastle needed strengthening, yet Souness and Roeder go and buy some superstars to try and appease the fans.
At least Sam is doing things sensibly, getting rid of bad apples and the wannabes and trying to introduce some class into the team.
Everybody was saying how well Ericsson was doing at City and then they get shagged 6-0 off Chelski……..Sack Sven??? can’t here their fans complaining at all even though they were mostly opposed to Sven getting the job in the first place, at bit like BSA really.
Lets cut him some slack and see what happens.
Let’s accept we’ll win nothing this season and anything else is a bonus.
