With Newcastle’s squad now made up of players from different countries, cultures and languages – it’s important they have but a single language to communicate with in training.
Not surprisingly, Sam has said that language will be English so when they are on the training field or have meetings about the upcoming opposition, everything is communicated in English.
And each player has to get to know how to speak the English language – quickly.
Sam Allardyce – whoops, loooks like somebody just spoke French on the field 😀
Shay Given last week had mentioned his difficulty in communicating with some of the new defenders in front of him. He tried to talk to Cacapa, the Brazilian in Spanish, not immediately realizing that in Brazil they speak Portuguese. But Shay shouldn’t have to worry about his Spanish too much, or even learning Portuguese, because the common language at the club will be English.
Sam talked to the Journal about communication this morning:
“When they are together on a casual basis, I don’t mind them moving back into their own language,” “It’s a difficult thing to continually communicate in English if you’re not very good at it.â€
“But when we move into the training areas and start training properly, they have to communicate in English.”
“That communication has to spill over onto the field and, while you might be able to communicate with one or two players who might speak French or a different language, that’s not the answer.â€
“It has to be one language for all when we’re training and playing. I haven’t gone as far as issuing fines but, if a player persists, it’s something I might consider.”
We all know that it must be very difficult for all 9 players brought into the club during the summer to acclimatize quickly, but they all seem to have done surprisingly well. They are already showing some good form on the football pitch, to the delight of most fans.
Of course one of the added complexities of living on Tyneside is that they will need to learn at least some of the important Geordie dialect. That may be the bad news – the good news is there are lots of people around who are only too willing to help them in that. 😀
Comments very welcome.

Comment #1I agree with Sam,but why does Joey Barton still feel the need to go on about the forginers in the Man City team and constantly having a snipe at them.Sam should tell him to let it go ,he is making himself look silly and more importantly the club as well. The press don’t need much of a reason to have a go at NUFC so Joey shut up.

Comment #2Surely to show real committment they should all learn Geordie. That would really flummox the opposition.

Comment #7it wasnt the right team to put out, but if we had got a goal we would have steamrolled them, but with the team we put out and we go behind like we did then we are bound to lose…
