Nolberto Solano is trying to organize a charity friendly between England and Peru to raise money for the victims of the devastating earthquake, which hit Peru on Wednesday.
Solano, who was the first player from Peru ever to play in the Premiership, has 77 caps for his country and is in contact with representatives of the England national team. They have agreed to talk to manager Steve McClaren regarding a possible date for the fixture.
Nobby Solano – trying to help Peru after the terrible earthquake hit Wednesday
Solano told Radio Programas.
“We can see a way of organizing a friendly match with England,”
“People in England like football a lot and that can help to gather a lot of money to send to all the people in Peru that are in trouble because of the earthquake.â€
“We are trying to find a date for playing the match and I hope they accept it as something positive.”
We think this is a great gesture by Nobby Solano, who is using his fame to do something good – and for the benefit of his country. Peru of course was hit by the devastating earthquake last Wednesday and the country needs all the help it can get.
Authorities have said over 500 people have been killed and more than 800 injured in the 8.0 magnitude earthquake. The casualty figures are likely to rise as relief efforts spread out from urban areas and into the region’s isolated mountainside communities. The earthquake was centered about 90 miles southeast of Lima and more than 16,000 homes of adobe and brick, in Peru’s southern desert, were destroyed. Nearly all of the homes were in the southern cities of Pisco and Ica.
We trust that McClaren and the English FA will agree to put out an England team against Peru, so that money can be sent to help with the terrible situation there. Great credit to Nolberto for showing leadership and true spirit in pushing for this game.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #2It’s a worthwhile cause and should be supported by the England FA, but trying to fit this game in will be a problem due to the congested season.
Maybe an England B team, game played at SJP and McLaren selecting many players from the North East will boost the crowd!
Only hope that Solano decides to stay with Newcastle as he’s such a good squad player.

Comment #3Solano is a pure legend and a gentleman to boot! I hope he gets his wish for a charity game – and if not England than why the hell not NUFC with Nobby playing a half for each side?
I’ll buy a ticket for the concert as well!
